Im underfeeding them if anything. When I got them they were very overfeed. I give them a small pinch once a day and skip a day every 3 days. Im trying to get their weight down from the lady that had them before me.
I wouldnt add ay more fish to overcome the overfeeding problem.. If you have a common pleco you really need to think seriously about getting rid of it, your 20 g tank is way to small for it.
Daily water changes are ok for fish, just think of it as rain. Cut back on your feeding as well. How often and how much do you feed?
I would acctually tend to disagree with the comments about the pleco... though a pleco definately benefits more from a larger tank-- I have had agood luck with them in 20g tanks in the past
they are one of those fish that tend to grow to the size of their home.. and though they definately create a large amount of waste-- I dont find that it is overwhelming to care for mine.. I will be moving him to the larger tank shortly-- but if I didnt have a larger tank I would still keep him. they dont require as much space as many larger fish because they spend a lot of time sitting in one spot.
the only issue is the bioload-- so if they are kept with a smaller amount of community fish there is no problem at all
The only pleco suitable for thart tank is a bristlenose (well maybe a bulldog but they aren't common). A common pleco barely belongs in the fish trade let alone most peoples rather small tanks.
The advice that a pleco is a good fish as it will grow to the size of its environment is illogical. Fish, like all living things, have a size range which they should grow to. If your fish doesn't get to that range then it is hurting. Plain and simple there.
Also plecos, as primarily herbivores (though some require protein in their diet) require constant grazing of food to survive. A low calorie algae/plant based diet means that you need to eat constantly. Thus the amount of poop a pleco should produce when healthy is huge.
And at no point does a properly done water change of any size hurt fish. Those that seem to think so should show me some scientific proof that it does.

I already have plans to purchase a bigger tank just for him. I'm getting a 55 gallon but due to a personal money situation I won't be able to get it until next month. I find him tetraveggie extreme and hikari wafers. I can't get him to eat fresh veggies but I do provide them. What do you feed them for a source of protein? The tetraveggie has some protein but I am assumign that its not enough.

Actually, there are plenty of other species of plecos that fit the bill. Clown plecos, queen arabesque, L46, L010a, Rineloricaria parva and plenty others are just as suitable.
And folks, please do not start personal attacks bashing each other's opinions. Drop it while you still have a chance. We are entitled to our own opinions. To each, his own.
No insult intended but normally this would lead me to believe overfeeding may be a concern. Based on your reply maybe you were only referring to new the vegetables your pleco has been ignoring?
