I got 5 convicts in my 20 gallon all are about 1-2inches right now. I have so many hiding spaces for them that I feel I will be fine when it comes to breeding and if they gonna be crazy when they breed well I got a 5 gallon bucket with filter and aretor for them! I feel it depends on the fish cause when it comes to chiclids no 2 have the same personalty:feedback:

Along with salvini and jd's, green terrors would prob be OK. Firemouths might work with them , although they aren't quite as aggressive. If bought at a small size and added together they could work.
Its hard to say because you are stocking a 55 gallon tank and wanting fish that grow to 8+ inches. A 4' x 1' tank is just not adequate for the size and aggression that most of the popular CA/SA cichlids attain.
Did you and I talk about doing a convict and firemouth tank already? I work at Fish World in Raleigh. I had a very similar discussion with a guy just the other day. Either way, come in tomorrow (Saturday) during the day if you can and you and I(Mike) and Adam can sit down and try to brainstorm a stock list for you.
What kind of filtration do you have for the tank? That will play a big role in what kind and how many you can keep.
