I have not read each post in this thread but if you do indeed have have Malaysian Live Bearers [MLB] (your term is Trumpet Snails) please consider yourself fortunate.

If these are indeed MLBs then when you turn your lights on you should be able to observe many but after a few hours you will observe few if none.

These "little devils" will get into the substrate and clean up the mess.

You can overfeed and they will clean up the mess.

You can over-fertilize or over-light and they will clean up the algae.

thank you, yes when I turn on the lights in the morning I see them, 10 minutes later there gone! I see the gravel move, but the gravel is not deep so thats why. I love em.

well today I found a whole new bathc of babies all over the tank. the salt treatment for ick did not deter these guys from throwing out the baby snails there was at 50 on the tank this morning. sooooo tiny. I would have fed then to my big fish, but since this tank is being treated for ick I could not.

Several Items:

I do not know not if you have MLBs as the hiding when the lights go on is indicative but when first born they appear as little white slugs and are not identifiable, at least by me, as having a shell.
Until they are, very qualitatively, 15mm in length cannot I observe a shell and until they are, very qualitatively, 30mm in length cannot I observe the trumpet.

I very much enjoy mine also as these little devils are real "cleaner uppers".

IMHO if you are observing that rate of reproduction you either are or have been overfeeding. They are feeding on detritus on the surface of and in your gravel.

I have babies in my tank so I am sure the over feeding is from them. also my shrimp. when I finally move them out I will clean up the tank well. also my shrimp are to small to see, some are still clear. so I have not been able to do much of a gravel clean. just on some parts. I hope to do a good job this next tuesday when the tank is free finally if ick.

You'll always have babies in the tank, regardless of whether you're overfeeding or not.
If you have billions of adults in your tank, you are overfeeding.

The babies will die off for the most part and not reach adulthood if they aren't getting enough food, and you'll have a relatively stable population.
