my cories laid eggs, ate some, and now there are about 15 left that i have been chasing the m away from them.now i need to know:

  • how long before they harden so i can move them to a safer place?
  • what can i use to scrape them off?razor blade?
  • what do they look like when they have set/harden?
thats it for now sorry for all the errors :) trying to type while periodically chasing cories from eggs with a wooden skewer(dull end of course)not to sound impatient but i need responses people!

Congrats! It seems like it only takes a couple of hours for them to harden. The egg itself looks no different so as long as a couple of hours go by they are hard enough. A lot of people recomment using a razor blade or a credit card. I like to gently get them with my fingers and transfer them.

What kind of cories?

bronze,i looked online and they looked ok, looked hardened, and they probably were laid sometime this morning behind my wood.
i scraped them off with the razor blade and put them in a container to keep them from the adults.did a quick count, there are 13 i think.now i gotta figure what to do with them.
might have to start up my 5 gallon fish bucket as a tank.

now,what do i feed them?
should i add a bubbler?
and how tiny are the fry?
could i put them in a breeder trap?
i think thats it for now. all replies are appreciated!(sorry if i sounded impatient before)

If you can pick up Hikari First Bites at a pet store, that would be the best thing to get. They won't need to eat until about 3-4 days after hatching. They'll have their egg sac to absorb first.

Although a 5 gal would be great, it needs to be cycled.
When I just get a small batch of eggs like this what I do is very simple just for hatching them. In the grocery store in the kitchen gadget aisle you'll find small strainers with a handle. The strainer is very, very fine. The eggs can't slip through. I figured out how to rig it so that the strainer part sits in the water about 1/3 of the way, plenty of water to keep the eggs covered. I rig it to sit on the lip of the tank crosswise on the front corner. (yes, the handle will stick out so you'll have to be careful not to knock it in) My aquaclear filter is on the left back side of that tank so by placing the strainer on the left front corner, the eggs are directly getting circulation from the filter outflow. It's quick, it's easy. If they hatch, I already have a fry tank so I just transfer them right away to the moss in the fry tank. If they don't hatch, you haven't gone to a lot of trouble setting something additional up.

I was frantic on here the first time i caught my cory spawning. I remember being told to put a bubbler in with the eggs to keep water flowing around them. I would assume that you could keep them in a breeder, i just cut up a gallon juice container, cleaned it out, added a air stone, dropped in a heater. The only thing i didnt get done that was suggested was to add some methylene blue, it prevents fungus from attaching to the eggs, and guess what happened...i got fungus on the eggs. I have some on hand now and will try to save the eggs again next time around.
