I had an idea to make under gravel tunnels with pvc for my loaches
or any other fis in the tank who might like it.

I was thinking about making them out of pvc with maybe just the top comming out a little from the gravel here and there with some java moss wrappes aroung with a mesh.

Has anybody tried this?

Also anybody know where I can find Java moss in chicago?

check around at LFSs for the moss. but for PVC pipes i have seen people silicone gravel to them to help them blend in. this looks very good and you may want to do that instead. but the loaches should love it.

They make silicone for aquariums. Of course this comes with a higher price tag than others. Most decent LFS will have it. I think there's another type out there that Lowes & Home Depot carry, but I'm not sure what its called.

You can safely use pvc cement, the two part stuff with the purple primer and cement. It works really well and is made for potable water sources. I've used it quite a bit with great success.

I've got a PVC undergravel tunnel in my cory sterbai holding tank right now.

Basic black PVC pipe about 2" diameter and 6" long that I shoved 1/3 full of gravel to hold it down. The cory actually play more on top of the tunnel than they do inside--the smooth surface seems to fascinate them.
If I carry it over to my big tank, Iwas going to cover it in cork or small pieces of drift wood and cover it with anubias nana petite, but after watching play on top of the PVC I may just leave it plain and tuck it behind some thick plants for them instead.

Good to hear. Anyone else use regular PVC cement?

Not ABS right? ABS isn't suitable due to its make-up (its only used in waste/sewer pipes).
