Up and Running Finally

The problem is i have a canister filter in the 90g so i cant just add some used filter media from my power filter. Plus i think the guy at the lfs was giving me some of his gravel as well. so i shouldnt have to cycle all that long. As far as the gold fish go they were feeders so im not even sure they will live very long. sadly i had more but they didnt make it. Other than the gold fish how do the tanks look? How about my guppy tank? I'm looking for opinions. The advice is welcome though.

yea. I need to get the water for my tank. My lfs said he would give me about 60g of water so i wont have to cycle so long. Then they go to my 90g. No worries. Thanks for the info.
Use the filter media. Water is essentially useless as most bacteria do not colonize the water column. Do you know what goldfish you have? Considering goldfish themselves do not stay small at 8 to 24 inches range, a general guideline for fancy types should be at least fifteen gallons per fish whereas pond types need at least twenty gallons per fish. Previous debates have been offered that the fancy types need a minimum of at least ten gallons per fish. While this point of argument does prove itself feasible, giving more allowance for space would be a much better option for the goldfish.

Moving this thread to coldwater so you get excellent advice from other goldfish enthusiasts.:)

Okay, I just read this post. Your goldfish are easily the pond types, whether common goldfish, comets and shubunkins. Hwom, I know a few people here who selected their feeder goldfish carefully and grew them amazingly. See flaringshutter's blog threads around here and you will find her Napoleon and the most of the rest of the goldfish gang were feeders that she grew in the last five years. You can achieve this by giving proper care to your goldies. Don't give up too easily. Your goldfish will grow prettier than you will imagine.

The gravel should work well once added as a filter media to your filter. It also is another area colonized by beneficial bacteria aside from the filtration systems.

Your tanks are looking good by the way.

Thank you! This was the kind of advice i was looking for. Now that you mention it maybe i will work on getting a pond up and running. I tried to convince my dad that we dont use the pool enough and that we could turn it into a pond but he didnt go for it.

There are some awesome pool conversion sites on the web if you search and show ;) I tried to persuade my dad to turn his garden into an Italian water garden which was more water than garden...he didn't buy it. Think of how much less time he would spend mowing the lawn!!

You're welcome, Hwom.:)

I suggest showing him the photos of beautiful ponds especially in the Indoor/Outdoor Ponds forum. It's a fun time to learn the basics of the pond. Even if filtration may not be an option, you could at least add a submersible pump to keep the pond well aerated and flowing thus mosquitoes and other bugs can be repelled from trying to breed in the pond. Most bugs prefer stagnant water. Let's put it this way...It will be easier taking the time to read all threads in the Ponds forum and ask questions in some topics that you don't understand yet.:)
