Upgrading from 10g to 29g

Ok... here goes, I want to upgrade to 29 gallon from 10 gallon. The best way to do this is using same old filter, gravel, and decor... along with other things that are in my old tank in my new tank to reduce chances of recycling. Water doesn't matter right? Just add dechlorined water to the new tank?
I don't want to make the same mistake I did when moving fish from one 10g to another 10g. :sad:

Will you be upgrading the filter once the tank is established? I would reccomend it, unless your stocking levels are really low. I don't really know how to help, but I wouldn't suggest you completely replace all the water. I would keep about 5 gallons of the old water just to be safe, and test the water for ammonias, nitrites, and nitrates. There also might be a mini-cycle since you are moving into a 29 gallon, so watch out for that as well.
 
If you do plan on upgrading the filter, just let them both run on the tank for a few weeks until you remove the old one. I would aslo make sure you dechlorinate the water BEFORE you put it in the tank so that you don't kill off any good bacteria. Other than that, your plan is good. I have moved several tanks that way and not had a cycle. Just take your time while you're doing so you don't forget to do anything. And no, the water isn't that important, unless you are moving fish too. In that case, just make sure the temp and ph are the same :)
 
Umm... I should add my stocking list below my list then will do that after this post :)
Right now, I have 1 guppy, 1 betta, and 2 cory catfish. Also one plant. I'll keep those fish when i upgrade, will use same filter that I had for those fish in 10 g for 29gal while I add new filter for 29gal on that tank. There will be 2 filters on that tank for awhile before I remove the smaller filter. I'll let 29 gal be for awhile before adding more fish. Will that work?

Ah, when adding fish... how many is good idea to do? I wanted to add a school at a time (school of 5 to start with). Will that work ok?
