URGENT: Shark's skin coming off/infected?? Help please!

Deepening redness can be a sign of healing and so can bumpiness. Here is some info on wound healing. Post more pictures if you can so we can see what his wound looks like. I'm not saying he doesn't have infection; just that he may not, and redness in a wound is not the difinitive sign of infection.

Also, I'm thinking Clove oil may not be the best method of euthansia in this case. Clove oil might cause pain due to exposed tissues. I'm thinking that it would burn or sting on contact with open wounds such as this.

While redness may not be a definitive sign of infection, the spread of the wound is. If it was getting any better it would at the very least stop getting bigger/deeper.

Whether clove oil will cause additional pain or not I believe is irrelevant. He must already be in excruciating pain, and while the clove oil might sting, it will knock him unconscious in a matter of seconds - at which point he will no longer be feeling pain. Researching other methods of euthanasia will only prolong the pain that he is already in for probably days.

I don't know about you, but if I had a painful wound like that I'd want the doctors to make it stop, even if that meant it would hurt more for a few seconds; rather than have the doctors sit around for days debating what to do, letting me suffer.

That's why I think it's getting worse, because it is spreading/getting deeper. I soooooooooooo want this fish to make it!!!

Me too, but if the OP can't manage to do the water changes or even get antibiotics, then this poor fish doesn't have a chance and should be put out of its misery.

He is already too big for that tank. You should either a) start looking for a much larger tank for him now, or b) start looking for a new home for him.

Um giant gaping wound. Doubt b) is an option right now. I think he needs to focus on keeping the water clean and start this fish on an antibiotic before it just becomes another RIP thread....

:iagree:

No reason to have taken the carbon out until you started treating with a med. You really need to prioritize here and do 50% daily water changes MINIMUM if you expect him to have any chance. This will be especially important when you start the antibiotic (see my post above). If it was your intention to treat with an antibiotic, you should have purchased and started dosing it by now. Why such a hard time finding maracyn/maracyn 2? Petco and Petsmart carry them as do most LFS on the cheap. I would strongly consider picking up some clove oil or otherwise figure out how you're going to euthanize this fish if necessary. If, for whatever reason, any kind of wounding spreads to include the eye you need to euthanize immediately.

It's always an option to look around for a lfs or someone who might be willing to take the fish, in the unlikely event that it heals up and survives.
;)

Water change DAILY.

I don't know how much I have stressed this, already. He needs his water in PRISTINE condition to have a chance. I know its a pain and a hassle, but it MUST be done.

Good luck, I'll be checking in!!!

How is your shark? Please give us an update. Hoping he's still hanging in there.

I live in a VERY remote area, not in the states, but I'm no going to reveal it on the net, but the shops here are very small and don't have that type of medication, no petco either anywhere in the country. I'm trying to maracyn now, but it's proving to be very hard...I'm trying...

As to the water changes, I'll change the water tonight, but I will continue daily changes. I know it's a hassel... And about the fish home, I have a willing person who has an outdoor tank with heating who is wiling to take it there.

Eating fine, though I fed it bloodworms and some got stuck to it's wound skin. Should I stop giving worms?

Pics coming up
