USing Bio-SPira: What Numbers Should I see?

I'm still not getting any nitrates. I found a LFS that sells BS and will pick up more there tomorrow morning. I lost a cory today. :(

My first batch of bio spira didn't work, we live in the UK and I think it just took too long to get here, 2nd batch was brought over by my son in his suitcase and it worked like magic :) so good luck

I got my 20g set up a week ago Saturday and used Bio Spira and added 5 golden platys. somewhere between yesterday and Sunday I got Nitrites of 2, ammonia of 2.0 and NitrAtes of 5.0. It did take awhile to kick in but it sure has now. I will test today to see what I come up with.

It seems to be working fine and no fish lost.
Good luck

Ooooo! I got a 20g High waiting to be started up soon! I too am thinking platys!!! I have 2 gold twinbars in a 5 gallon currently and she already drop 7 or so fry which they have apparently eaten since I can no longer find even the last one...the tank for some reason lost cycle and now it's starting over....not sure why though....

I'm having the same problem right now, added Bio-Spira and fish on Saturday. Today noticed some ammonia building up. I'm so paranoid because I spent a good amount of money on these fish. So today I went and got another pack of Bio-Spira from a different retailer. I asked both if they have kept it refrigerated and of course both answered yes. But the girl today mentioned that they just got it and that it went straight from a cold packed box to the fridge. So hopefully that will do the trick. Truth be told, I'm way more stressed about this than the fish seem to be. Im reall happy with the way the tank looks and it would seem that my fish are too, here's a pic, it's from a cell phone so not the best quality, but not too bad considering.

Ammonia is at .5 now, can i do a water change just about 6 hours after adding the bio spira?? Or will that decrease its effectiveness?

I've setup 2 tanks now with bio-spira. It isn't a magic cure, you'll see a very accelerated cycle. One tank worked a lot faster for me. In about 3 days it was totally cycled. The second tank took a solid 4-5 days. During that time I did a couple of smallish water changes.

I wouldn't stress. In my experience it has worked well. Also my LFS has 6000 gallons in their store. He cycled all his tanks (freshwater and salt) with bio-spira and stoked with high levels of fish a few days before he opened his store.

Thanks for the replies, I called Marineland this evening. And the guy told me that seeing some ammonia was normal, and to not do a water change for 2 weeks. I asked him at what point I should worry about the ammonia and he said 7! I was like what and he said 5 to 7. He's nuts right? And not doing a water change for 2 weeks?

maybe

maybe they add some stuff in it to detox the ammonia, like Prime does. when you use Prime you will still test the ammonia, but the fish don't feel it. maybe they have the same sort of effect with Biospira.
