Using polyfiber as filter media

i buy the king size roll of the poly quilt batting that you cut to fit whatever size you need i get the thick fluff kind its 9.99 for the huge roll lasts me about 2 months but i have alot of tanks running it also come in a smaller bag for 5.99 and it is NOT treated with a flame retardent BUT be careful they do sell the flame retardent version so make sure you read the bag. here in calif at my store the treated is in a purple bag and the untreated is in a green colored bag but im sure they get different companies for supplies in the usa so your store may use different colored bags.

i have always wondered about that stuff. thanks!

but i think i will still stick with my blue bonded filter pads that i replace almost never.
( I remove the stuff from the old frame, cut 4 notches on the sides near the top and bottom, cut filter pad to fit, and then rubber band them onto the cartridge)

i buy poly-fil, bufalo snow, etc all ther same crap, i put it in both my HOB's and canisters, excellent mech filter. I have yet to see anything better.

its a great idea...

for those of us who swear by carbon... what options do we have to keep carbon in the filter?

has anyone had any success creating a "pouch" for the carbon? I was talking to someone who is trying to create such a pouch, and was hoping for other ideas?

sunshinessmile: the method i posted above will work. you cut two notches on the left hand side of the cartridge, one near the top and one near the bottom. You do the same for the other side of the cartridge.

Place the carbon in the center few spots on the cartridge and rubber hand it together with two rubber bands. as long as you don't shake it violently no carbon will fall out. i was doing this for several months before stopped using carbon.

i can take some pictures if you want more details.

I have used "3 for a $1" knee highes fill with carbon, a pack of pot scrubbers, and Poly Fiber as my high tech redneck filtration!
