UV sterilizer tubing positioning and help

I am using a 11 Watt Jebo UV Sterilizer with my eheim's 2217 canister outtake 1/2" tubing. Does it matter where the tubing is going through the UV? Should the water find their way to the UV light and into the tank? Or the water finds the light from the back and escapes the light and into to the tank? Because I am doing the escaping.... Is this 11 watt Jebo UV sterilizer even effective with my Eheim 2217 in a 60 gallon tank? Is the water flow too fast? Can anybody confirm? Any help would greatly be appreciated.
 
I don't understand what you mean by the back and escaping light but the jebo is a straight through flow unit so the Eheim is too fast for it to effectively zap the algae/bacteria. I have the Turbo Twist on my 40g with a 2213 I have the intake tube go through the filter then between the output on the filter and the spray bar i have the UV.

Eh, bought myself a Turbo-Twist 9 watt. It should do the trick. Lol the jebo is useless now.
 
Without doing research, my Eheim 2217's GPH (Gallons Per Hour) max is 264 while the 9 watt turbo twist can handle 200 GPH.....

Question is.....does it matter?
 
slow is good with UV, bacteria etc need contact time with the rays. I think the given number of gph for the filter may not really be that much in "actual use"

I have a cheapo UV that has 24w & only ~100 gph
 
If you want to adjust the flow, you can always tee off the line and with a ball valve, control the flow to the UV and at the same time not sacrifice the max flow of your filter.

Hmm, what do you mean tee off the line? and what's a ball valve?:)

this unit looks to be submersible
in this case you attach a small powerhead to the unit and let it push water thru.

I have a large unit set up as hang on.
