Very new guy with new tank!

I always wanted to have one but was afraid of how hard it might be but she showed me that it wasn't. I also like that we can do it together.

Mandi my birthday is 9/6. LOL

#1 Do you have to cycle the QT before you put fish in it?
#2 Can we build set up and get fish in the QT while we are waiting for the display tank to cycle?
#3 what size is good for a QT?

We want to put the QT on my desk in the same room as the main tank so we can see the fish while we are waiting to put them in the display tank. Can you think of any reason why we shouldn't do that? I guess that would be #4.

You don't have to cycle the tank, it just takes diligent watching parameters and be prepared to do water changes at pretty much any moment. I have 2 QT tanks cycling because I'm going ot be putting more than one fish in (going to be getting fish ordered for my 75gallon restocking and a 29 gallon new tank). I don't want to order the fish and have an ammonia spike while I'm away at class for 9 hours so I'm cycling it. Can also put filter media into the main tank and it takes care of that. Due to disease in my main tank, I wasn't going to do that. Could also use water from the display if there's not issues there.

My thought on the size is it depends on the fish. I have a 20g long and 10g. I'm going to use the 20g long for a majestic angel to observe for a short time to make sure that it's eating and looks healthy. I haven't decided if I am going to house anything else in that one yet or not or do 2 orders and pay another $40-50 in shipping. It's not a cheap fish and I'll be buying from liveaquaria's diver's den for the angel so I don't want to risk introducing something from another fish. Both are smaller and will be cramped, but I think both will be sufficient.

What if I took some filter medium from my girl friends tank and put it in the QT? Would that work?

Hers has been running for 14 months.

I have a another question. How do I put a like for her tank with my own discription on my posts? I have a link to this thread but I can't figure out how to have it say what I want it to say. I want mine to say 75gal build log and hers to say My girl friends 20gal thread.

Type the words like My 75 gallon Tank.. My GF's xx Tank. Highlight the first one then click the little world with the chain (if you hold your mouse over it.. It says insert link).. Paste the link information into the popup box.. Repeat the link for the second one.. etc..

Also I'd let your QT stew for a couple of days for the bacteria to build up and stay on top of the parameters until your colony is capable of supporting the fish etc. Also only add a few fish at a time or shoal of the same at a time so your bio-load of your DT will develop to maintain them.

Thanks clown. I got it now.
