Very new guy with new tank!

I know...but a GFI outlet is very easy to install and I recommend them over the portable solutions.
I kind of thought thats what that was. Still, you have a weak point where the GFI adapter plugs into the wall. For just a few dollars at home depot you can buy a new GFI outlet, turn off your breaker for that outlet, and just a few screws later its changed out.
I am sure it is one of those things an electrician would go nuts over. For me, I would probably build a housing around it, seal it to the wall, and call it a day since that wouldn't require me to run out to get an outlet. Then a year later I would have a problem and I would just think back on the day when I was told to change it out. That is just my luck with reefs. I always try to skimp a little here and there and it always comes back to bite me in the behind sometime in the future.

It's not that. I install them all the time. It's that I'm renting here. I will have to talk to the land lord to get in the room where the breaker box.
Well that poses a problem. I guess thats up to you then. I also rent currently and was not allowed to change to a GFI but I have placed a GFI over the normal outlet. I told the landlord that they were nuts not letting me switch it out but they said thats what my renters insurance was for
. When/If we get our place I'll be placing GFI's near the tank.
I know.. But overall its a good place. Out in the boonies away from the noise etc. So we put up with their "issues". That and we can have pets. Those places are hard to find around here.
