Hello,

Just wondering if anyone knows very much about the metal slate bottom aquariums some of us used to have as children.

Does anyone know if the Metaframe aquariums were the ones with the angled metal towards the bottom? Does anyone know the sizes they came in?

Did all glass make metal aquariums too. I just refinished a small 10 gallon one last summer and am currently working on a 5. They are fun to display
thanks

well i now Metaframe are the one that angled at the botom (i have 4 of them currently) not sure what size thay go up to but the largest i've seen was a 90 gallon i think. not sure if allglass ever made metal rimed tanks hell i don't even know if thay where around back then.

btw metal rimed tanks rock

metal frames rock majorly. Thanks I have seen a 55 gallon before. and know they made a 10 gallon and a 5 /5.5 gallon tank. My 10 gallon metal tank doesn't have slate, my 5 gallon is a slate metaframe aquarium.

ya was amazing when i saw the 90 (not sure on size but look like a 90) i have a 30 gallon that i got from a friend this thing is in amazing condition all original glass and the tar hasent even begun to corode it's just really dirty and need to be cleaned. it might even be able to still hold water it's in that good of shape. the 20 gallon desided now would be a good time to spring a leak so had to patch it with what i had on hand (epoxy) so not looking good but i still like the tank. also have a 3 gallon with a betta and a 10 gallon that the glass was replaced but it's really to thin to do anything aquatic with (i'm thinking dart frogs)

I read somewhere that if you heat up the tar, it will melt and reseal, as long as you keep water in it, it will hold, once it is empty, it will dry out. Not sure if that is true or not

I had a 29 that I traded to MsJ for some plants and shrimp, and I still have a 40 breeder. Both needed resealing when I got them, but both were freebies :D

There were some pretty big ones available back in the day, I think larger than 90 gallon but I don't remember for sure. AGA did not make them. They were not around that long ago. Metaframe was the primary manufacturer, but Hartz also made them. Hartz continued to make them later with glass bottoms. I have a dozen of their 20s in my fish room now. They're a great size, at 28x16x10 tall.

thanks for the info. I think pemco and sternco also made them but there is little info about the specs of the tanks out there
