Walmart fish

I dont typically buy fish from wal-mart though I have in the past at times.

most of the wal-marts in my area arent great, but arent horrible either

the beef I have with them is that they buy their fish (like all their other merchandise) from the cheapest source possible, which leads to bad stock

its like buying fish from a bad pet store no matter how well the individual wal-mart cares for them... I agree that cleanliness etc has a LOT to do with the employees, and I commend them for that

but it makes it very difficult to buy decent fish from ANY wal-mart when they buy the cheapest stock possible.. the issue is that a lot of the fish are unhealthy before they even get to walmart

Some edits done...

Folks...this thread, yet again, is NOT here to bash Chain stores....Lets keep things positive. If you want to pass around negative comments about a chain store, please use the PM ( personal message system )...

Thanks.

well i had nearly forgotten about this thread until i saw it on the main page. It's good to hear that at least some folks have had similar experiences with Walmart.

I think for the quality of training at most Wal-Marts (I'm a former employee) that mine is doing pretty well. Their tropical tanks are usually doing pretty good. All my goldfish came from our local wallie world and are doing great and growing huge:)

But this winter they got a shipment of sick goldies in and they still don’t look so good. I’m thinking the cold weather has had a bit to do with it also. But they’ve been trying when the looked the worst the tanks had a paper hanging saying the tanks were medicated and there would be no sales from those tanks. They also don’t sell in the 1st 24 hours that new fish arrive. I always stop by to take a look and some of the employees have gotten me talking about my fish and have been willing to learn new things. I was a little surprised on one visit I talked about my live plants being awesome and now it looks like someone doing the ordering got talked into trying it and many of the tanks had baskets of plants which their algae eaters were enjoying cleaning up.

Hahaaaaa......that is sooo George Carlin!

Hm, okay then....

Does anyone know Walmart's DOA policy? As in, how long you have to return a fish if it dies? I once asked an employee near the pet department (but not "assigned" to it) who said they thought it was like three days or something. Is that for real, or is their actual policy more reasonable than that?

I believe it varies from walmart to walmart. Believe it or not, but I asked before I got my ropefish there, and I was told that the return policy on fish was 90 DAYS! No typo there, 90 DAYS.
