Im about to get a 20 gal tank. I want to turn this tank into an Aggressive tank. I'm looking for any types of fish (freshwater) that are aggressive. I am already breeding guppies for feeders.. do you think cichlids would be a good choice? if so what kind in a 20 gal ? What other types of AGGRESSIVE fish are out there?

Are you planning on just useing fry as feeder, or bigger guppies?

What do want from the fish? THere are a number of aggressive fish, not as many that will thrive in a 20 gallon setup, much less eat guppies. Something like a single leaf fish, and then a bristlenose for cleanup would be cool, but not very active. 6-7 tiger barbs would be very active, but unlikely to eat the guppies.

I don't see what the atraction with agressive carnivorous fish is. do you just wan't to see them beat each other up and eat your guppies? IMO, if it's just for entertainment (seeing fish get eaten), and not for maintaining the fish, it's cruel.

most agressive fish are like anyother fish, they must be given a balanced diet, green sunfish (a north american native) are the most aggressive fish i have experence with, they would attack your hand, python tube, pretty much anything you put in the tank. They would not do well on just feeders though. they need a staple of some sort with live food of several types being rotated once a week or so.

I have heard that a warmouth will harrass anything in its tank until it kills it, i dont know i have never kept one.

Although it is not a fish, how about an African Clawed Frog...they can be fed fish occasionally, and also eat crickets, worms, and any aquarium food imaginable. They become rather tame and are charming and comical.

>.> Get a bigger tank and house some Pirahna :D
Mine actually bit my cats tail and by the end of the few years I had him (I finally gave him away) he even bit me ...

Which was awful =(
It was like a really deep papercut. I may as well have been sliced by a surgical tool.

I don't think they usually do that, though. I still don't know why this one would actually attack my cat or me =(

probably becuase it was hungry?

There are some spiecies of freshwater puffer that will do ok in that size of tank. I would recommend a redspot puffer. They get to a max size of about 3". They shouldn't be kept with any other fish though, as they will eat them. Here is a link to find out more about fresh water puffers Puffer List

Also look at the Tetraodon Turgidus

I have a Tetraodon Palembangensis also known as the humback puffer. He is really aggresive towards other fish. I just put some neons in there the other day, because I had no room for them after I took their tank down to move. They where all gone by the next day. I do not recomend that you only feed your fish live fish, as this will leed to faty liver disease. You will have to train your fish to eat frozen foods. I feed mine frozen shrimp. Takes a couple times for your fish to learn to eat these, but after those first couple feedings they will figure out that it is food.

The one thing about the teraodon family of Puffers is that they are a lurker fish. This being said they are not that active of a fish. Mine tends to hang out by his cave durring the day, and when the lights go out then he is more active.

If you are looking for a fish that will be active, then I wouldn't recommend these fish. The leaf fish might be your best bet for the size of tank you have and for a more active fish.

One last thing. If you feed live foods then you will have to do 50% water changes weekly. As there will be a lot of waste produced durring feeding time. Good luck and let us know what you decide on.

Does anyone know where to get a Tetraodon Turgidus? I am a big fan of puffers and really want to try keeping this guy.
