I met mine through a common interest... work.

We worked in separate hotels in the same chain. And we were both going through divorces at the same time. He didn't get into fish and I didn't get into computers until we got together :) Lucky for both of us.

He didn't necessarily understand my hobby at first, and I didn't exactly embrace the idea that he was glued to his desk chair for hours on end at first, but we have adopted each other's passions (although he will NEVER be as much into fishkeeping as I am...)

The biggest point I'm trying to make here is, you don't necessarily have to look for someone with your hobbies, only someone who doesn't object to them :) To be honest, I found that the best ones come your way when you AREN'T looking.

Be patient, and Mr. Right will fall in your lap one day when you're least expecting it ;)
 
Well, I guess that I should keep up on this thread lol. I am now a member of the Iowa Aquaria Association, I would post something like this on there, but I don't really post anything on there, so I'm not as known as I am here.
I have kinda sorta stopped looking for now. Thanks for all the replies though :)

Have you ever been to Clinton before?? THIS IS the s***tiest town in Iowa. Now if you want boring, then the whole Maquoketa/DeWitt/Charlotte areas are on the top of the list :D

You should try that Iowa site if you havent already. Now quite as good as this one, BUT you atleast get a chance at getting good priced tanks/fish from there, and the people are pretty nice too.

Somewhere down there I think I read that you are a student? IMO, school is the best place to meet people, especially people that have common interests. That's where I met my g/f of one year. We meet in chemistry class (we're both science majors), she likes birds, I like fish. But I'm slowly transforming her. Bought her first fish, a betta, and shopping around for her first tank. Anyway, I'm surprised you aren't meeting any interesting people at school. Nothing against your town, but maybe if/when you transfer, you should think about transferring to a different location. Yes I know its like a one in a billion chance of meeting the love of your life online, but it happened to me about three years ago... I was then a member of aol and years ago I had put an ad on love@aol... I had really lost hope in the ad because the only ladies that were emailing me were "being polite" not my type... but one day out of the clear blue bam.... I got an email from a lady near my area, about 50 miles away... We talked for awhile online then on the phone and agreed to meet at a restaurant kinda halfway. Yes we met the same night... I showed up a littttle late and was afraid she had already left but sure enough I pull in right beside her... I could tell she was nervous and so was I. After we met we went inside and ate and talked... and talked... and talked... and... well you get the idea... I met her at 7pm and we were in the parking lot talking at 1am the next morning... Since that night we have been together ever since... She is my best friend, she is my light, and she is my heart... Yes I know meeting people online can be scary and unsafe... And I am by no means condoning internet dating... But I did wanna tell you that it can happen... and did happen to me... Thank God
