water changes.... a silly question

I have to do multiple buckets too... but rather than pour a bucket in at a time and risk disturbing the sand, plants, caves, fish, etc... I have a gallon jug that I fill from the bucket and slowly pour into the tank one jug at a time.

When you're doing 15-20 gallon water changes each week it is a little time-consuming... but I think it is worth it... especially since you know you're less likely to stress the fish that way.

My fish actually seem to hang out under the stream of water as I pour it in- they enjoy playing in it.

No Python to run to a drain or sink ?? run it out a door to the outside :)

But the problem is not getting it out, it is getting it in....

Am asking the same question on the australian forum and got the suggestion to use a water can.... the 'ADA' way....
:thm:Think I like that (and it will still give me that muscle tone, hihi)

You picks up the bucket and pour it in. ;)
Again and again. :)

Thats how my 55g gets done, anyway.

I second that, and I feel that when I pour the water into the tank it helps to stir up contaminets from the bottom and giving them a chance to float around for the filters to grab ahold.

Yep either you have a piece of hardscape decoration in the tank that you can pour away on from your bucket, or you use something like a watering can or a smaller container which won't disturb your landscaping efforts (which would seem likely to take ages for a 50G tank's weekly maintenance), or get a Python and just make sure to direct the flow carefully so as not so shake everything up.

I have a samll tank and do the bucket thing but was wondering if you are using a Python at what point and how do you dechlorinate the water that is going in?

You take the water out, and then you dose the tank with the water conditioner, then refill. The key point is to dose the tank for its entire volume, not just for the water you are replacing.

You can use this approach when refilling with buckets too - or you can add to each individual bucket. Either is fine.
