I just moved into a two story home and setup my brand new 50 gallon tank. I have been monitoring the temperature of the water over the last week and it rarely gets under 80 degrees. Sometimes it does reach around 85. The room that it is in is my office, and its the hottest room in the house (upstairs, next to the attic). Would any fish be tolerate of such temperatures?

There are several species of fish that tolerate this range of temperature that are considered good tankmates for discus. You will be able to have these fish in those temps. even if you do not have discus in your tank. Rams come to mind. Either the german blue ram or the bolivian ram. A pair or two of them would be great. You may also want to consider some species of tetra that occupy more then the bottom of the tank(rams prefer the bottom of the tank.) Rummynose tetras are beautiful with their silver bodies and red noses and blackish tails. They school well togather and are awesome to watch swimming through all of the plants. Neons and cardinals also come to mind. Of those two I like the cardinals better since I think they are prettier then the neons and tend to be a bit hardier. Also the rosie tetra. I have them in with my discus and they do very well in these temperatures. Bleeding hearts are another one to consider as well. You can also consider some species of cories as well. I like the pandas and the peppered cories as well as the juli cories. I hope this gives you some ideas of other fish that can be kept successfully at higher temps,
