water temperature

I am having a problem keeping my water temperature down. I have tried ice and just adding cold water. I don't have an option to have a fan blow accross the top of the water. Does anyone have any other suggestions. I have a 20g tank with a 30-40g external filter.

Does anyone on this site really know anything or do you all just want to feel smart. It seems that whenever I get an answer to a question, it is just more questions. That is, if anyone ever answers questions. I came to this site for help and instead i get to read a lot of egotistical crap. I am so unhappy with people on this site.

First of all this site isn't an organization or company which offers a service...therefore, no one is required or obligated to answer any questions. Take free advice with thanks and move on.

Unless your fish are showing signs of distress such as gasping at the surface and breathing heavily, I would not worry about it too much. If the water temperature is 85F or lower your fish should be fine if your tank is reasonably stocked. Many people simply take 2 liter coke bottles and fill them partially with water and freeze them...after which they are floated in the tank.

The reason we ask questions is to get the big picture and make sure we are not giving useless info.
What temperature is your tank at? As previously stated, if you have tropical fish 85 would be fine.
What kind of fish are in it? Goldfish? Tropical fish?
You could turn on the a/c in the house. That keeps my tanks at 78.
Why can't you blow a fan across the top of the water? It is a very inexpensive solution.

I appreciate your advice and I understand that no one is required to answer questions. However, if people do respond, I wish they would do it respectfully. All too often, people make comments or suggestions that do not even pertain to the question that was asked. That was the point that I was trying to make, and I am sorry if I did not state it correctly previously.

You can get buy a chiller that would help a buddy of mine has one for his marine tank it works great

yes, chillers are very expensive, however, they can be worth it I guess if you really need one.

My buddy paid $1,600 for his but since you have a 20 gal you can get one for 299.99

I can speak only for myself.
I know nothing, or close to nothing, and type mainly for the exercise.
Sometimes I try to make myself sound smart, but this is particularly difficult.
My favorite part of the forum is asking seemingly irelevant questions like; what did you have for breakfast, do you have your shoes on, and isnt it time to go outside yet?
To paraphrase tech guy, isn't asking questions what forums are all about?
Besides, if you are really in the know, you will see how the answers to such questions can be crucial to solving many aquarium quandries. how can pple expect answers without providing all the info? :huh:
A DIY chiller may be a possibility.IMHO
