Water tested finally

I'm sure we're all waiting with bated breath to hear why you can't mail order what you need!

Actually, this is the one that I can see a reasonable excuse for. Mail order & online shopping is much easier when you have a credit card.

I can't walk to the petstore cause its across a highway and the light doesn't stay red for to long. I may just ask if I could use my dad's text kit.

Let me get this straight. You aren't willing to do water changes that are absolutely necessary, you overstock your tanks, you say that you have no sick fish while complaining about fin rot & fish not getting better, you say don't have money but then say you do have money... Now on top of all of this, now you aren't willing to cross a street, and you haven't even asked your dad if you can use his test kit?

Let me ask you a simple question. Do you even care about your fish? I ask, because most people who do care about their fish would have asked their dad about using his liquid test kit as soon as using one was recommended, which was quite some time ago. Also, you're allowing something as simple as crossing a street to stand in the way of your getting to a pet store. There's plenty of other things I could go on about, but those two facts really paint a picture of someone who doesn't actually care at all about their fish.

That, or you're incredibly young. But with a part time job and having kept fish for 10 years, my money is on the former.

If I were you I would take advantage of the fact you have a LFS across the street. Also, you are lucky to have a parent that has fish, that generally means they have supplies too. I'm not trying to repeat the criticism but I want you to realize you need to take the best care of your pets or re-home them to a better owner. It doesn't feel good to be criticized by other AC members, I've been on the receiving end too, but they know what is best for you and your fish. Please listen to their advice.

My dad owns no supplies... he takes all of my supplies and uses it all up on me and never replaces it. I'm going to a pet store later today after work to take two of my dad's angelfish and my gold gourmai and BN pleco. My pleco started to harass my cories and I don't like that, the gourmai has started to chase other fish, including the cories. But the pet store I'm taking them to doesn't carry full test kits, I believe. I have to see but, I won't be able to buy one due to going on a 4 day vacation and I have to use the money I have saved up for food and other stuff.

The betta that I said has fin rot.. he doesn't...he bit his tail a few times...Now to get my dad to do a water change on his tank, he has a huge algae bloom and the only way to clear that is to do a water change. He told me water changes don't need to be done every week... not a 50% change... I follow his advice most of the time, since he's been in the hobby since he was a kid and had many tanks in the basement, both salt and fresh water. With all the tanks he's owned he never done a water change and he never lost a fish over the years. I think the hardest fish he had kept were seahorses, and he loved those.

With my old 29/30g I had my fish in before [the one angel, the two oldest cories, bumblebee cats and neons were in my old tank], i've done biweekly water changes and once every 2 months I'd do a 75% water change to rid of the gunk in the gravel. This was back when I was still in high school, and I had help doing the changes.

You just said your dad had some supplies, your Betta is depressed because... I would be banned if I said so...

So what is stopping you from doing even weekly changes now? You certainly don't need help anymore, do you?

And I'd be willing to bet the LFS, if it is worth its salt at all, will have a liquid test kit.
