Welcome DocTim aka Dr. Tim Hovanec, inventor of Dr. Tim's One And Only, fmr. BioSpira

I dunno...if you read the previous posts (especially No. 9) I think you'll agree they're not exactly glowing with praise, lol

(Except for the ones from his "employee" of course ;))

And did you check out the tags?

I don't see too many other fish product company CEO's talking directly to their customers.

Personally, I'm kind of glad about this. If every Tom, ****, and Harry with a product of questionable necessity decided to start shilling their stuff on AC, I'd probably pack up and leave. That said, welcome Dr. Tim, though you've been here at least as long as first guy welcoming you, and much longer than myself.

Hey, shouldn't he be welcoming us?

Yep, I mentioned that he's been a member since March 2007, in the first paragraph of my top post. This was his first reply in the forum though so I thought he deserves a nice welcome... unfortunately, he's not getting the kind of welcome he should. Other forums welcome notable folks in the hobby to be in their forums. Dr. Tim is invited to and attends LOTS of fish club events all over America and probably the world. AC should be glad if he starts participating in the forums. I don't see too many other fish product company CEO's talking directly to their customers.

Big difference in being a CEO and a company spokesman or product developer.

Hi All

Thanks for welcome. First, let me be clear that I don't plan to shill my products and I've never meant Lenny! I will try to provide information for those that ask and to clear up any mis-information or mis-conception about them if needed. Other than that I will try to add to the conversation and help people out. If you think something's hogwash (that's you 'V') then let's have a polite conversation and see if I can't clear it up.

I have been keeping fish since I was 6 years old, grew fish in the Peace Corps, worked 10 years as hatchery manager for a large aquaculture facility, have done consulting around the World and, of course, worked nearly 18 years at Marineland and now I head my own company. I did my masters on ammonia toxicity and ammonia excretion in fish and my Ph.D. on nitrifying bacteria in aquaria. I am also a past president of the American Cichlid Assn and have been the treasurer for about 12 years. I'm basically a fish geek who turned his passion into his education and professional career - all of which means I think I can add something of a practical and scientific experience to certain areas of the forum.

Cheers

PS - I have no idea about the tags that must have been Lenny (my uncompensated spokesperson !!)

Cool to see product reps (whether they own the company or just represent) on the forum.

Back in the day, I seeded many tanks with BioSpira and was surprised to see it gone.

SO anyway, Here's my belated welcome to AC.
