Welcome DocTim aka Dr. Tim Hovanec, inventor of Dr. Tim's One And Only, fmr. BioSpira

I don’t mind sending out some samples – Jannika you can be first on the list – just PM me an address that Fedex can deliver to along with a phone number. At $10 to $12 a pop I can’t send out dozens of samples but some is no problem. So if you interested and have a need as you’re setting up a new tank etc then how about the first 10 or so requests I’ll take care of (I'm taking it out of Lenny’s commission, anyways!).

I sent you my mailing address. Hopefully I will be among the first ten. I have a tank that is one week old. I have six Danios in it to to help with cycling but I'm having trouble explaining to the kids why we cannot add more fish. I'm not sure who is more impatient, our three year old or the sixteen year old (the eleven year old doesn't seem to care), but when I told them it could take several weeks to cycle the tank they act like it is my sole purpose to suck the fun out of everything. If your product will speed the process up I would be very grateful.

I promise to write a full review of my experience (good or bad).

Doc Tim, PM sent, thanks so much. I'll be picking up a 20 L at the $1.00 per gallon sale later on.

Lenny's right, you are awesome! And he probably deserves a raise. ;)

Possibly because long-time hobbyists generally have one or more tanks already running and established, and know enough to just grab some established filter media from an existing setup to seed the media in a new tank. That course of action is recommended all the time on the boards here. If you already have an abundant source of active bacteria, there's no need to go out and buy it, and no need to really keep up on the leading edge of research going on in that area, other than possibly just for curiosity's sake.

It could be s great product for someone with a new tank and no running, established tank to take filter media from...like Sploke said. More than once, I have taken one of my existing seeded sponges to start a hobbyists tank off successfully. Just be certain your source has disease free tanks. My own tanks, I always start from a seeded sponge from an existing tank. No need to buy anything like that.

you'd better get to work, lenny! quit slacking.

Geeezzeee... considering this thread, I thought I was working.... just not selling anything since I don't sell products myself... or get any commissions. :-P

Maybe I need to re-think my biz plan... oh wait.. fish keeping is only my hobby, not my biz. LOL

Now we have to figure out what percentage raise I should get... 100%? 1,000%? Oh wait... it won't matter since 100% or 1,000% of nothing is still nothing. ;-P

I do have to confess though... earlier in this thread I said I don't sell anything but that's not entirely correct... I do regularly sell off 20-30 of my Cherry Shrimp for a few new Cherry Shrimp and some store credit from my LFS. I've also sold some used stuff from time to time on Craigslist. LOL

Hey All

The first group of sample was sent out today fedex. I PM'd everyone who asked for a sample. So if you didn't get a message from me please contact me again.

As for the question about what species of bacteria are in the different products - the problem with that is that they are not recognized species. We do not buy bacteria - we isolated and grow our own. The vast majority of the bacteria (except of course the nitrifiers in One and Only) are Bacillus species. To get a valid species name there are a lot of hoops to jump through and what's the reason.

The major difference between our bacteria products and other is that the bacteria in the products have been isolated from cultures taken from our freshwater or saltwater tanks or my Koi ponds. Since these bacteria are from these environment it stands to reason that they like to be there. After we isolate and test them to find those that, then we want we grow them up and then re-introduce them to tanks or ponds to make sure they do what we want.

If you want to look something up - for Re-Fresh look google the term bacteriocin.
For Eco-Balance - google Probiotic and competitive exclusion (also see some test results here http://www.drtimsaquatics.com/Eco_Balance/Eco_Bal_Research/Eco_Bal_Research.html. For Waste-Away, these are our sludge busters and they work faster and are more concentrated than any out there. They grow best at aquarium temperatures not like others that grow best at 98 deg F. This product is actually great for plant tanks because it breaks the sludge down into CO2 that the plants can use.

Cheers,

PS - Lenny got his raise - 150%

so, that's $180 + his original 5% = $189 + the original $12/per...

lenny, looks like you're $309 in the hole buddy. i'm not sure i'd keep this job...

I'm starting to feel like Washington DC. Isn't that how they do their budgets? LOL

Hey Thanks DocTim! I'm looking forward to trying the sample. I'll give a full review and update my blog as things progress.

Interesting aside - I am currently reading The Complete Idiot's Guide to Freshwater Aquariums by Mike Wickham. Only minutes after I received your reply last night about sending out the samples I read the disclaimer in Mikes chapter on cycling that mentions you and your experiments in the field of nitrifying bacteria.

Small world. I'm only a week into this hobby and I'm already rubbing elbows (virtually anyway) with the big timers.

Thanks again
- Joe
