well....gonna do another ram spawn.....

Stick with the syphoning when you add the water. It will slowly add the water so the fish can adjust. Adding a bunch of new water to fry might just nock them out.

Not to highjack this thread but I just had my female lay eggs last night, the thing is I just bought the pair of rams on sunday.Boy they don't mess around, they just get right to business.Buy theway,EMG,thanks for all the info you have added on this sight about Rams ,it has helped me alot.

Glad to help Maverick....love to share the hobby !

One tip.......when changing out water from a fry tank....syphon the dirty water into a light colored bucket....so that you can look for any little fry that you may have syphoned up by mistake.....easier to spot than in a dark colored bucket.

Got a pair of Blue rams yesterday :) They are doing well, amazingly beautiful fish.

My female's ovispositor is protruding slightly, is this normal...or is she getting ready to lay eggs. I have heard so many talk about a very quick post-delivery breeding?

OK ,will do.

If she is going to lay eggs she will get really fat and her ov... will protrude more than normal. She may be fat for a few weeks though before she lays.
Update: I've got some swimmers!!!! :dance2: anything new with yours emg? are they starting to look like fish yet? are you feeding them? I finally did get some first bites, should I try to feed them like a week after they are all swimming?

I put some bbs in there with them today....I didn't get very many with that batch of brine shrimp eggs, apparently the eggs I have are no good....but I got enough to feed the few fry that I have. I'll have to get some more brineshrimp eggs...but I think I'd rather do microworms...much easier.

The fry sure did have fun chasing them down and catching them. They still look like tiny tadpoles, but they're growing.

EMG how do you go about handling or shifting eggs, and when you siphon the fry do you net them in the siphon tube or let them run through?
