Thanks everyone for the ideas so far. I'm not after a pair...I have a breeding pair of kribs in another 33 gallon tank and that's enough "kids" swimming around in my opinion.
I'm leaning towards a firemouth with variatus platies (which I love) and a clown or rubber lip pleco. The pleco ruins the biotopishness of the set-up, but so do my plants (but they're darn hardy to they're staying).
Have you ever considered a Blood Red Parrot? These fish have tons of personality and are not shy at all. It's an unusual fish. Check out this site for additional information on them.
No offense, but I'm not a blood parrot fan. A firemouth is still what I'm leaning towards. One of my all time favorite fish was a female texas cichlid I had for 10 years...she was great, and highly interactive - I think that's why I have a fondness for North/Central American cichlids.
no offense meant but I just don't get the blood parrots. they look like goldfish to me??? Just not quite right. I am sure they have great personalities but they just don't do it for me.........but I have never "met" one, so there you go......:lipssealedsmilie: I will shut up now! LOL
Well...I saw this really nice female convict (really nice fins) and she's the one. Her name is Spudgun. One advantage to a con is that they're so easy to sex and the female will stay smaller than a male (either con or firemouth).
Just goes to show that no matter what you plan, life is full of surprises.
Nice. I like Convicts, never kept em, I just like them. They are tough looking fish, and don't get too big. Maybe one day I will have the space for a pair.
