Icka - Kas tends to get a little too worked up over things sometimes and it tends to come across as petulance on the boards. I assure you that no feathers were ruffled on my end, at least.

I was going easy. I am not petulance, im perfecly calm. If you want to see me flame, look threw my other posts.

my LFS, all three have told me that and the little(i admit not much) says that they will. I dont know who to believe, i wanted them with my guppies but everyone kept telliung me no no no. i am afraid to try it. sry to ruffle any feathers, you guys gave me info that contradicted all other info, just was a little skeptical thats all.
I think your LFS are umm, how to put this politely... well, frankly they are incorrect. There have been threads on this before and really, there is NO documented evidence of guppy x platy. There is lots of Anecdotal evidence, but it's always the same, "I put my male guppy with my female platy (or vice versa) and then she had babies!" Thing is, livebearers store sperm for a long time. So, it can appear that while she was "only" with a different genera, she could have stored sperm for a while abd then had a litter. So, aside from anecdotal evidence and the advice from your LFS (and for grins, look up LFS on a search and see the reams of crappy advice they give) what scientific proof do you have? Anyway, not to hijack this thread, but platies and guppies do just fine together. Now, if you want to talk about platy x swordtail, you have something...

ok ty for clearing that up, i am sure that is what got to my LFS as well. When that heppens and people do not know how livebearers work it is real simple to get confused. I knew about livebearers. but like i said i had no true proof one way or the other just that my LFS told me not to and some research i did as well, probably someone else who is confused. Ty for setting me straight that is what these forums are for... if i say something wrong again let me know just dont go with the "you are stupid and so is you LFS" method. I trust my LFS very much. When my father says something i ask them and you guys, when they tell me something i ask my father and you guys. I want all opinons and facts about helping my fish.
Again ty for clearing that up for me

You really don't make it easy for people to take it easy on you, do you? You clearly didn't grasp what I said about you the first time, so I'll dumb it down for you.

To someone new to this forum, your lack of communication skills tend to make you seem like a short-tempered jerk. I was trying politely to say that such was not necessarily the case.

However, I'm no longer certain that I was correct in doing so.
This thread has gotten so off course that I'm through with this particular tangent, though.

As a rule of thumb I normally verify the information my LFS gives me. I do have one that trust here locally, but I still second guess everything they tell me and look it up to verify. I remember way back when buying a male convict to pair with my female(which I gave to a friend) and the LFS guy was like how do you know which one is female. I was like OMG you have got to be kidding me.

The 1st page was slightly avargated on both ends. On the 2ed after I's comment, its calm. Dont worry.

To get back to the question at hand- fish selection for a ten gallon. ;)
I have searched alot of swordtail and platy threads and I've seen a recurring theme about swordtails. Namely they can be very aggressive to each other and to other livebearers if not in a larger tank. I had a platy/swordtail hybrid in a 20 gallon and he was a real sociopath. Platties and guppies are probably better small tank choices. Platties in particular IMO are very beautiful and playful fish. The tank will be more peaceful with no males or a 1:3 or greater male to female ratio.

Shelldwellers or Rams

I'd say that you should get shelldwellers or a few rams their both awesome. I currently have a 10g with a breeding pair of rams 6 neons and 4 cory cats.

So far, thank you all for your advice so far.

I'lve copied down the fish, info and sites listed so far.

A ten gallon is not a good sized tank for tropical fish. A male betta, one dwarf gouramie, some dwarf cory or panda cory catfish, oto catfish, platies. Guppies do not breed with platies as far as I know. Platies and swordtails can interbreed I think...
