what can i stock with?

Once they settle in they can get even more territorial then before. I am sorry but I think the reason for the aggression is that the tank is too small for him so he just decided to declare the whole tank as his own territory and no one else is welcome. I think he needs to go back to the store and then try to get some fish that are better suited for your tank. Perhaps a small school of tetras. I like the rummynose tetras and the lemon tetras are also nice. Both of these species will school and keep the tank active with plenty to watch. Just make sure you go with one or the other. Another species to consider would be the rasboras. I like the harlequin rasboras. They look like they are wearing little tuxedos. They are tight schoolers and look very nice swimming through the plants.

Hope this helps.

I agree. he could keep a small shoal of 4-5 in there, and maybe a snail as well.

hey guys, i really appreciate those suggestions, because bob (the paradise fish) is being returned to the aquatic centre tomorrow (saturday). and thanks marinemom for answering that q for me, really greatfully appreciated. would things like guppies, danios or neon tetras be compatible with my female swordtail? because the concern that i have with themi sthat they might be to ickle to put with my female because she is around 2 inches long now, which is full length right? and another q, when i was feeding my fish this morning, i noticed a film on top of the water? is this anything to be concerned about? atm, i am using an under gravel filter paired wiith a pump that came with my tank, (the tank that i have is an aquaone 320) paired with a couple of bronze corries in my tank. and again thank you so much for clearing that up, really apreciate that.

I answered this in your other thread but if the cories will also be out of the picture then you could probably get away with some neons with the swordtail. However, I have swordtails in my 25 gallon tank with some rummynoses and believe me they( the swordtails) can grow larger then 2 inches. Just keep a close eye on them and the water quality and I think it could work out.

As far as the film on the top of the water, it could be caused from not enough surface aggitation. Do you have an airwand going in the tank? If not, you may want to add one. This will break up the water at the surface and the film should go away. Have you tested your water? You should probably do that too just to make sure that everything is where it should be with the water quality.

what is an air wand? is that one of those things that blows bubbles in the water? ermm, no, i'l pick up a testing kit 2morrow wen i take bob back.

Yes, an airwand blows bubbles in the water. Some people call it a bubble wall or you could get an airstone but they are not as effective because they are usually more dense and it is harder to push the water through them. It takes a rather large air pump for the airstones to work properly. An airwand or bubble wall is easieer and I think looks nicer. Also with more surface aggitaion from the bubbles breaking at the surface of the water, the fish will ultimitely get more oxygen. It is a win win situation.

ahh ok thas cool, coz i have noticed sometimes whem i watch my fish, that they do take gulps of air from the surface sometimes. so, with the airwand, does that conect to the pump i have already or, does it have it's own seperate pump?

Most times it has its own pump. You might be able to use the pump you have it you can use a T to direct in two seperate directions, one for what you have now and one for the airwand. However, it will be much more effective if it has it's own pump.

are there any manufactures that you could posibly recomend when i buy an airwand, and, would the pump come with the airwand, or would the pump have to be purchased seperately?
