What Canister Filter Do you like

My Fluval 404 is quiet as well. I don't know how loud a 304 is since I have never had one.
I hope you will have your canister filter in an inclosed cabnet stand.

FX5 may seem like overkill, but it is well worth considering....I have set up a few on 90s, and they do a great job...and you should be able to find one for about $250US.

Cascade 1500 ($100-$125), Eheim 2217($120-$140) or 2260 ($250).

I have no use for the Fluval '05 series, and I find that Renas tend to leak and that the flow design is ineffectual.

I have a Cascade 1500 on my 90 gallon tank and i have been happy with it. I had a lot of trouble getting the valves seated without leaking. I keep the filter in a big plastic container in my cabinet - when i change the filter media i dont disconnect the hoses just let them hang with the top of the filter and take the base and media to the sink. The quick connectors probably work fine but i had so many problems on my fluval 303 that i do the same thing there also.

Keep the experiences coming.

Keep going guys - how about one i can afford :) The FX5 is nice but its rated up to 400 gallons - overkill for a 55. And about $275 USD.

Ok it's a little high but well worth it. You could go months without cleaning it and you'd have superior filtration. You also said you might upgrade upto 90 which wouldn't be overkill at all IMO. For a cheaper price on a 55g, Rena xP4 is a good filter and would carry over to the 75-90.

Chalk up another plus for the FLUVAL 404. Mine's been going strong for over 2 years and is as quiet as a mouse. Dead easy to tear down and clean as well.

How would an Eheim 2028 do for a 75 gal? It's about 4 changes per hour. I've heard good things about this series.

Canister Filters

As you can see there are many good filters on the market, in M/O the Mag. 350 does a great job and is easy to keep clean. As for as pricing, if you go to the petsmart webpage and print out the item you want, you local petsmart will match the price. In most cases there is a huge differnce between the internet pricing and the store retail, the mag. 350 retails for about $154.95, internet pricing $89.99. MB:)

Mag 350s, all the way.

I like my Rena XP3s because they are inexpensive and do a great job of keeping the water crystal clear. :) Even with a bunch of Malawis in the tank. I also have an Aquaclear 70 on my Malawi tank, but its more for surface agitation....the extra filtration is just bonus.

I also use the Rena XP3 on my 75 gallon community tank. Cannot hear any noise what-so-ever from it.

Has plenty of media baskets, which some can be used for ceramic bio-media. Also, it is a no-bypass type of canister filter.
