What Canister Filter Do you like

FX5 may seem like overkill, but it is well worth considering....I have set up a few on 90s, and they do a great job...and you should be able to find one for about $250US.

Cascade 1500 ($100-$125), Eheim 2217($120-$140) or 2260 ($250).

I have no use for the Fluval '05 series, and I find that Renas tend to leak and that the flow design is ineffectual.

That's the first I have ever heard about the Rena's leaking and the ineffectual flow design.

I know quite a few people using Rena XP2 and XP3 and none have any difficulty.

Don't get me wrong, I am not doubting you. Just the first I have ever heard of this.

Mag 350?
Not sure if this is the best for your money. The question I have about them is back in the ealy 80s they were out and many of my freinds were running them with great results. Point is, I wonder about this being old technoligy. I have to wonder if they are still equal to the newer canisters filters out today?
On a plus side the system is proven.

BUILD ONE ITS EASY

They're expensive, but Eheim cannisters, ime, are something that works so well as to be unnoticeable. Buy it, hook it up, and forget about it for months and months at a time.

The design allows for the water to easily flow around the media instead of through it...not all the water does, but enough to lower the potential efficiency. I have found that they are prone to leaking in time as well (personal experience with about 150 units). It is unfortunate, as some simple design changes would easily remedy these issues.

I use a Rena xp3 and an aqua clear 110 on my 80 gal. The Rena is so quiet. I love it. I got it at Petsmart for $105. Check out their web site.

I absolutely love my RENA XP2. You can't beat the quality for the price. It's got humongous baskets, and the XP2 and XP3 come with two baskets, I believe. As far as noise... not as noisy as any other filter I've used. If you put it in a good cabinet, it's virtually unnoticeable. Only when the water get's low and the spraybar is spraying directly across the surface does it make quite a bit of noise. Keep the spraybar low or water topped off and you are good to go. HTH.

I recently bought a Rena XP3 and am very satisfied with it. There customer service guys were pretty prompt at replying question as well.

I have an xP3 and I'll admit it's not the most efficient best cleaning filtration device on the market but I don't understand how you come to the conclusion that the water flows around the filter media. The water flow goes down around the baskets and is then forced thru the filter baskets back to the aquarium. If the baskets are filled with filter material wall to wall, it seems it's bypass-free. Seeing your credentials in your signature, I'm defintely not one to argue with you. Help us understand why and how. Thanx.
