What canister filter is recommended??

You can never go wrong with a stop by bigalsonline.com when it comes time to shop around for the big stuff. Or the little stuff too I guess. Go ahead and get a big jug of water conditioner while you are at it, screw buying that stuff in small volumes.

:iagree:
I bought a Cascade 1200, not highly recommended in terms of quality, but it has worked for me for maybe 2 years now.

Also, IMO, you should get the larger of the two filters you are considering. I doubt you will regret going big. Especially when you decide your 50gal is too small. And you will decide that. You will. :evil_lol:

I had asked about the xP3 for the 55g mbuna, and the xP1 for the 38g planted...

As far as getting something bigger than my 55g, I just spent a large amount of money for a Classic Oak 55g stand/canopy and a matching Classic oak 38g stand/canopy...

Also thank you yhbae for this link for canister filter reviews

I would say that I have 350 gph on MY 55 and I have to add a xtra hob for xtra flow . I like a decent flow, I want to see' my plants sway a small amount all over the tank, and where the filters output is, that side of the tank will have the flow, but the other side gets , well dirty IMHO , that is why you will see these eheim people with 2 of these filters on thier 55 gallon . I havent had a marineland yet .... I really would love to try the one for the 55 and also the XP3, I think the rena WILL be my next try at a canister for MY 55 . good luck and tell us what you get and how it works .

and again YOU can never overfiltrate, most filters come with a flow control where you can turn it down and as it slows with age/ dirtyness, you can turn it up higher . you will notice algea growing in dead spots where no flow gets to , this is another reason why I like the xtra filtrtaion . tell us how everything goes !!! ~~~

I LOVE my Eheim Ecco!
