Well, my Dad put 3 coats of black enamel on the back of my 90-so I guess it is black for me LOL. Really though he would have painted it pink if I wanted, but all the cool tanks I have seen were black.
I'm currently using black in my planted community and I'm pretty happy with it...so it's black all the way. Unless you are keeping male Betta's...the black offers a reflection thru the glass, causing the Betta's to spend the whole day flaring. Not ideal.
Also, I see white and light blue becoming the more preferred colours among the 'scaper crowd. It seems the lighter tones help with the illusion of depth-of-field.
I painted my 90 forest green. I wanted something different than everyone else's. It turned out really nice. It's a dark green and all the fish really stand out. Plus with the light colored sand , all looks good.
