What do you feed your cichlids?

When I kept Tropheus I used to cycle rocks between their tank and a small container pond I kept outside with some African Butterflys. The algae that grew on the rocks is the natural food of Mbuna as well. Tropheus are MUCH nore susceptible to bloat than Mbuna ime, and I found that if I relied too heavily on spirulina flakes a fish would bloat now and then. I can't imagine giving beefheart to one!

I didn't know that. But, Convicts will wolf it like crazy too. I thought it would be good for all fish. I even feed it to my guppies, mollies, and plays! I just have to use a blender to get it fine enough for them.

No worries Winston yeah mostly those Central and South American fishes can handle that stuff with high proteins.. A lot of Africans require quite a bit of the algae and plant material in their diet..

Convicts wow those fish can eat anything and be OK.. LOL

Yep, yep...different cichlids from different areas require different foods...lol thats a lot of "differents".
When I had my CA's they LOVED the beefheart, my Oscar would take it right out of my hand of course he ate everything, shrimp, scallops, and beefheart were his fav's! They loved veggies too I used to blanch all kinds of stuff and feed them!

I can't get over the crunching dog food! You guys are killin' me.

Last night and this morning I noticed the Blue Dolphin hap isn't eating, just kind of hovers in one spot and doesn't go after food. He looks physically fine, and I haven't seen him being bullied. The water is good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. Should I be concerned?

Here's a pic (his right fin is there, just can't see it in the pic).

Thanks, Pitt. I think you're right. There's been a lot of chasing activity, with these two being the main perps:
