I just wondered what everyone else here feeds their dogs, other than dog food, I mean.
I just had someone over who told me I was nuts because I was taking time fixing Tink, Sparkles and Dutch's food. I add carrots, oats, fish oil, vitamins, peas, rice and some kind of meat(chicken or beef) when I have some to their food, and they said it's not even good for them(coming from a person who's dog is sitting in their backyard 24/7 on a chain).

I also wanted to know if anyone had any homemade treats they could post, I like cooking for them =)
I've never tried making them treats, I thought if I ever did I would use liver paste or cheese as the main part of it.

Odd thread :D

My mom feeds her dogs and cats on a raw food diet. Not sure what brand or anything but I know its all natural and people could eat it if they wanted (other than the meat being raw)

My grandma makes homemade dog biscuits and I know she uses liver, not sure what else she uses but she lives on a farm so everything is fresh.

I get a lot of my dog treats and such from these few sites..:)

The BARF diet, is the raw diet. I don't feed that, simply because its to protein heavy IMHO, but, I know a lot of people who use it with great success. I feed my dogs Science diet. I also make them a "slop" .

its a recipe, I learned when I was breeding. It has beef broth, carrots, peas, flour, eggs, and a ton of other stuff. They seem to love it, and their coats are always shiny, ( and although, I can't prove it, I never have trouble with fleas, as long as I am feeding this, ..lol)

Well the problem with raw here is my pit hates raw food..lol she acts like she's scared of it. She isn't a dog.
All of the veggies are raw during the summer though, but I cook everything in the winter.

Thank you Judge! those are some great sites =)

They are two of my favorite:)

and, I do the same, cooked in winter, ..i think its nice for them to have a warm meal to! and my guys hate raw chicken, ..lol, they won't touch it! they will take it and bury it anywhere to get rid of it! lmao

My dog has a sensitive stomach and vomits regular dog food. We have to buy the VERY expensive Science Diet :(

I have researched dog food extensively since the recall last year. I am now feeding Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul. My finicky teacup poodle just loves it and has gained weight and looks so much healthier since switching over to it. I have fed Eukanuba and Science Diet and was not impressed in the least. You ever try Chicken Soup, you will never go back.

I don't cook for my dogs but I do give them treats from time to time, They love raw hamburger meat and raw chicken necks and eat it with relish. Even the finicky poodle. They weren't too sure about it at first but now they love it and its natural and healthy for them. Their teeth are so clean and sparkly white now too and no bad breath.
I also offer raw carrots now and then.

This is Poopy, the finicky teacup poodle hehe.

Definitely research dog foods that are on the list from the whole dog journal. Any food that contains corn is terrible food for dogs. Corn is metabolized to sugars and shouldn't be used. MANY of the leading brand names do a ton of advertizing and save their money on the actual stuff they put into foods instead, namely cheap ingredients that sound good. Here is a rating system to use for your food.

I feed our dogs Canidae All Life stages. They get supplemented Omega 3, Ester C, glucosamine, and one gets cranberry extract as she's prone to urinary tract issues. We add pineapple to keep the same dog from eating poo, and then yogurt to keep them from having gas. Dog farts are all funny until they're falling out of dogs this size ;).
