What do you think the most underrated "common" fish is?

people overlook cichlids becaus they are always told how aggressive they are

This is going to sound crazy but, common little feeder guppies. I bought a group of them for my convict to chase around and well, she can't catch 'em. They mated and I had to rescue a few of the fry and put in my community tank. I thought the zebra danios and harliquin rasboras would polish them off, but no. They grew up, and are breeding. They are really characters swimming free in a 72 gallon tank and fighting with the amano shrimps. The males have some of the prettiest finnage for not being the fancy variety. Can't see how you're supposed to "feed" them to anything. They can't be caught. I'm gonna have to start taking them down to the petstore and adding them back to their feeder population.

Pristella Tetra

Von Rio flame tetras...they're at every LFS around here yet I hardly ever see anyone with them in their stocking list. Not sure why as they're very hardy, colorful, and beginner friendly.

I think every fish is underrated. People just haven't kept every single fish.

I actually really love Goldfish, but don't have the space for them.

I'm looking into the bigger species of the tetras (Black Phantoms) to stock my tank.

I'd have to say Kissing Gourami, they are very interactive and seem to be available at every chain store, people always look at them but never take one home. Mine is about 6 years old and is hand fed, and lives amongst some of my larger bottom dwellers.

chocolate cichlids, dull juvinile colours, usually not very apealing,
but they do reward the patient keeper
