Just curious what the other fitness oriented/seasoned folks here do to keep in shape and/or burn off a few percentages of extra fat. I am looking to drop about 2-3% to get my abs back. Fortunately, while I have a little extra flab, I am not overweight at 6' and 158 lbs, so I don't need to lose any actual "weight." I am interested in nothing but fat loss (I realize some muscle loss can be inevitable, but I'd like to keep it minimal).

I ran track and XC, and rowed crew in college, right now I'm training for the Hartford marathon in October with a goal of sub-3:00. I run every day at lunch when I'm at work, do circuit training once a week, and as soon as its warm enough in the mornings I'm going to start riding my bike to work and back 2-3 days a week (40mi each way). I'm also gearing up to do some sprint triathlons this summer, and probably shoot for a half or full ironman next year.

12 oz Curls!!
HA!!

and I'm in perfect shape, I perfect circle...

Actually though I am joining the gym... I used to run 3 miles a day, 3 or 4 days a week... and ride the bike, but I havent in a couple of years now. Need to get back in the habit.

I have zero cardio! Smoker. I hit the heavy bag, practice traditional Chinese Kung Fu weapons and do push ups. The most difficult is free standing hand stand push ups. Just started those and can only do about 4 before I lose my balance and fall over. This is largely done to amuse my children!!

I do a lot of rowing, myself, now-- just not crew. I do that at a moderate to heavy pace for about 1.5-2 hours per day (~120 lbs resistance)--I could do it a lot longer, but there's only so many hours in a day. Heck, as much as I row, I may be pretty good at crew if I try it out. I also lift pretty heavy (~45 mins to an hour) 5 days per week, since increased muscle mass burns more fat. I wish I could run that much, but I always have trouble with my knees after doing it for a while. It just gets worse until I quit--that's why I like rowing, since it is low impact on your knees. I admire anyone who does the ironman. I'm no where near that level, yet.

LMAO. I did the exact same thing the other day. I can get about 10 before I fall and break something. Needless to say, I attempt this while no one is around. I do a couple hundred regular pushups whenever I do leg exercises (as opposed to upper body).

On January 10th I was diagnosed with diabetes. Looks like my pear shape needs to go. The doctor told me the 40/40 rule. If you are over 40 and have over a 40 inch tummy, you will have health issues. I never took any of the weight stuff serious and now I have diabetes.

I have never been a fitness oriented person. I did not see a reason to run, unless someone or something was chasing you. Now I have started running/walking on a tread mill. I am attempting to do it every day. I have lost about 20 lbs since January, but I have lots more to go. I am not doing any crazy diets, just eating better and I have started the treadmill. I have never been fit, even when I played baseball and soccer. The only sport I play now is bowling, I am in great shape to bowl, like a pin. Bowling is not much of a physical activity at all.

I think I might want to lift weights, but am not sure if I want to buy a set or join a gym. I already had the treadmill, the wife wanted one a few years back, it is as good as new! I really do not think I will go to a gym on a regular basis, but unsure about doing it on my own. I might think about a personal trainer. I want to be more regular on the treadmill before I go off and do something drastic.

Then again, I really have no choice but to lose weight. Is a personal trainer a good idea? Is joining a gym better than doing it at home?

3 times a week bench 70 lbs 4 x25 reps, 4x25 leg lifts, curl 40 lbs 2x25 reps, run approx 1 mile, and behind the head curls 4x25 @40 lbs.

I will be 53 in a month , 6 ft 2 @ 175 lbs.

I know it's not much but at my age gotta do something.
