what filter for a 75 gal?

Canister filters have no more presence in a tank than an HOB.....?????

wait! i'm confused! i thought the canister filter was like the whisper submersable filter. (like the entire filter goes into the tank pretty much) am i mistaken?

yes you are very mistaken :)

Canister filters are like cans that go on the floor near the tank and have input/output hoses. They usually have a large compartment for variable media of your choice, or multiple compartments, that they cycle the water through.

The hoses go back into the tank. One will provide water back into the tank via a jet similar to a power head or spray bar, the other will take water out similar to the inlet of a HOB filter.

Here are some canister filters. Also see, info about Canister Filters

The RENA XP 3 is good value for the money(89.99), and has plenty of media room.

oh! ok. i see now! thank you for clarifying that up for me.

For a Mbuna tank, you want as much filtration as you can get. I'd go with a single canister filter, like a Rena XP3 or a canister and a HOB.

well i was just at this fish action and they were actioning off a canister that was up to 1100 gallons. it was sold for like, i think it was $35 and i wanted to bid, but i thought that was WAY too much filtration for a 75 gal. was i right to pass on this oportunity?

i don't know. it was really big......longer then a 29 long, but not as tall. it had these blue balls which i guess was like the bio-part of it.
