what filter for a 75 gal?

Yeah that was probably a wet/dry sump setup rather than a canister.

so i guess i will get a canister filter and an HOB filter? rena xp3 sounds good, but it is really expensive. is there anything a little less expensive that will do as good a job? or should i just stick with it? also, what kind of HOB filter should i get?

I've got 2 eheims 2026's, 2 penguin 350s + a couple power heads in my 75g ...

that seems like a lot of stuff......am i able to just have 2 HOB filters instead of 1 canister + 1 HOB? and what is a power head?

I would recommend reading the product reviews on cichlidforum.com. Fastest way to cut through the opinion and just get to the general consensus of each model.

The best price I've seen for a XP 3 is at Big Al's online. It's quite a bargain.

Depending on what and how much you stock you should shoot for around 10x turnover of the water every hour ... I get close to 20x, but with media it prolly actually falls back down to 12-15x per hour.

won't all that suction be too much for my plants to handle though?
