What fish am I?

Bingo!

Current Estimated Numbers: about 187
Range (Location): Devils Hole, Ash Meadows, Death Valley National Park, Nevada, USA
Size of Range: Unspecified small cave lake (smallest geographic range on any vertebrate)
Scientific Name: Cyprinodon diabolis
Conservation Status: Critically Endangered (CR)

But I have to wonder (just a little) if you knew it or if you have visited here https://rarest.org/animals/freshwater-fishes

I knew it from a documentary I had seen on the Desert Hole Pupfish. The only place I have been to in Nevada was Las Vegas and I think I was the fish there.....

I knew it because I live near death valley, and a news article came up a few years ago about some men who killed 3 and each got fined 50k.

Even more interesting is that science tried to spawn these fish in captivity/elsewhere. They removed a few and attempted to get them to spawn without success. The population fluctuates.

Although the population of Cyprinodon diabolis is extremely small (the population varies from 200 to 800 depending on the time of year), the Devils Hole pupfish has resided in the same small area for over 30,000 years. They are perhaps one of the most geographically isolated organisms on this planet, and are so adapted to their surroundings that when bred in artificial habitats, they undergo rapid morphological changes not observed in those that live in Devils Hole. Cyprinodon diabolis has a "rate" of evolution must be extraordinary for them to exhibit so many changes in such a short geological span of time. (Bunnell, 1970)

Nature almost always seems to find a way.

This is a game I call What Fish am I?

I post a picture of a fish (one side and one top picture) along with a hint to the genus, and a fact about the fish, and you attempt to guess it. Ill give people 12 hours to guess it. Let’s see who can guess right!

*please don’t use the internet to look up the actual fish. If you don’t know it, then don’t comment. However, if you think you know it, or want to take a long-shot guess, go ahead*

This fish is a part of a prehistoric family of fish. The fish is named after an extinct dinosaur that inhabit the Congo River. What am I?
