What fish (other than bettas) don't need a filter

I guess the other 9 people who gave advice were rude too. You don't have a leg to stand on.

I didn't get nasty until I saw the betta in the 2.5 gallon bowl. Which has about one gallon of swimming space after you take into account that bamboo and the rocks you needed to keep it upright.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, when people aren't right, they resort to personal attacks because they can't say anything else.

I am a jerk. I am crass, I am snide, I am sarcastic, and I am pompous ***. That doesn't change the FACT that you should not have put that fish in that bowl.

let it go

If you would take the time to reread the other posts, everyone else was polite in their suggestions BUT you. Your first reply to me WAS sarcastic and condescending. I didn't "resort" to calling you a "pompous jackass" because I was wrong, I said it because you are the ONLY one here being that rude. I would appreciate it if you would simply stop being childish, walk away from this thread, and allow some other civilized fish enthusiats to tell me what they think.

So I'm a little worried about getting flamed, but I'll say this anyway:
I think this is more telling than anything. You guys need to tone down the flaming because not only are you harassing the folks seeking information, you're beginning to intimidate the folks who want to offer helpful and constructive advise.

People are supposed to come here for :help: not for :mad2: . In the absence of an exercise of better judgment, self restraint and simple good manners, it seems like folks may have to start using the "report bad post" buttons.

Last thing I have to say on this matter

They should have a report bad fishkeeper button too.

wow...heated.

ok, well it is clear to me that this whole exchange is centered around one person pointlessly attacking another. so, as a person who knows quite a bit about betta fish, please let me settle this. first of all, does anyone think a betta SPLENDEN is a natural fish? they are bred to look like that and do not like any current at all for obvious reasons, so a system with a large surface area for O2 exchange is ideal for betta splendens. if wickedmax is doing the water changes he originally stated, then the setup is perfectly fine for a betta fish. after all, something like a labrynth organ is a very advanced biological organ, which tells you 2 things: 1) it did not just appear overnight (lets not get into a theological debate over this one, please) 2)being so complex, the "cost" of keeping it functioning in the species is high (aka, fry without working labrynth organs die...this is a process of evolution...if something as complex as a labrynth organ is not necessary, eventually the species wil begin to survive without it through random genetic variations...basically "use it or lose it"..it must be in use still). This second point leads to one of the strongest points people do not understand about betta fish. Their gills are not that efficient- this is not because they have gill damage, but rather it is because they have a labrynth organ. thus the myth about bettas living in small puddles is not a myth. so a system with adequate volume/surface area ratio for O2 exchange and adequately frequent H20 changes is great for a betta. it would not be considered an efficiency apartment.

and one more thing...when was the last time anyone asked a fish how happy it was? did it respond with a X out of 10 ranking? in my opinion, and this is just an opinion, if a fish has its biological needs met, it will be 'happy'. it does not feel cramped (if water is changed frequently enough) or lonesome (unless it is a schooling fish, and this is more of an evolved defense mechanism and thus falls under the "biological needs" category).
