Hi guys. I have a 10G planted tank with 4 zebra danios in it. I would like to get another school of 4 or 5 small fish to go in there, but I'm not sure what would be best to go with the danios.

From my experience, neon tetras seem to be pretty timid and do not particularly enjoy being chased by the danios. I don't think it would be a big deal to add neons, except for that its such a small tank without much room to hide.

I'd like something quick, hardy, and colorful. Do you have any recommendations on some small, active fish that would mix well?
Thanks!

A male platy would work, they come in all sorts of colors and mine interact well with the danios. I'd caution against getting a female platy since a 10 gallon cannot afford to become overstocked with fry.

harlequin rasboras are pretty active, and will contrast nicely with the dainos colors.

Hi,

You should first get a couple more Danios because they like being in bigger groups, then get like six Neons.

I went ahead and moved the 2 danios in my 20G tank into the 10G, so now I have 6 danios in there total.

I've had harlequin rasboras before and they're great so I've been considering those. Also, after doing some more research it seems that a lot of people don't have trouble keeping neons with danios.

I've been having a bit of trouble with brown algae as well. So I was thinking maybe a school of 4 rasboras or neons and 1 otocinclus catfish. That would be 11 fish in a 10G. Perhaps its too much?

I wouldn't get any more top dwelling fish for your 10G now that you have 6 danios in there, they will get large.

you can get 3 otos, though.

yes, i agree with fishcatch (well, HE'S the fishy expert here :D)

but 10g? I would have thought it to be overstocked...

also, try some snails or shrimp and stay away from long-finned fishies or they will get nipped by the danios! (of course, you probably already knew that by now...)
