What is a Good Live Food

well...i've never fed any frozen thing other than the baby brine. not sure what would be too big or not personally. just going by looks. if the neons, minnows, harleys and cherries can eat them with no probs...i'll surely get em.

blood worms are normally about ----- big. the neons and dwarf puffers at work have no problems slurping them down (kinda looks like a little kid with spagetti lol)
i def. agree with feeding a solid flake diet and then just adding live foods as treats for the fish. also if u do use frozen live food make sure to completely thaw it or you could do some serious damage to the fish.

I have had bad luck with mysis shrimp. Too big for small fish and even my larger fish are finicky with it.
For neons I would definately go with frozen daphnia. They will love it. Live daphnia is even better, the ultimate fish food because the little critters will live in the tank indefinately. You don't have to worry about fouling the tank due to over feeding.

only my big fish get live food.. and they get crickets and mealworms

(ok technically their tankmates steal most of the mealworms.. but you know what i mean)

for smaller fish i use freezedried critters (worms shrimps daphnia whatever) that way if it's still too big i can crush it up into smaller bits.

if you are afraid that neons will not be able to manage brine shrimp you can get the frozen bs and chop them up while they are frozen - let them thaw out at least to room temp before you put them in the tank.

It is not the most nutritional for them. I use it only as a treat for my fish like giving them a piece of candy. It should not be used as a main stable in their diet. A good flake food such as Omega One flakes and some frozen food such as mysis shrimp and/or plankton are better choices and the variety will really make the colors in your fish stand out.

whoa there..actually depending on the fish..BBS are very nutritional..the BBS still carry the egg sacs(they have orange bellies) this is a great source of nutrition ans is quite often used solely to raise fry.

I may not suggest it for species that require a lower protein..but the species that benefit by high protein will benefit by getting fed BBS.

I use decapsulated brine shrimp eggs, Spirluna flake, Artic krill powder, freeze dried plankton, brine flake ,Frozen brine shrimp, frozen blood worms..

I've heard of crickets before for large fish, but why? My gf feeds them to her bearded dragon, and I think they are the most disgusting feeder food out there. They are dirty, cannibalistic and have been known to carry disease (that I imagine fish don't have immunities too.)

Oh, I don't know. I feed them occasionally to my arowana.;)

bbs with orange bellies? now how in the world do u see that? they are smaller than a pin dot when put in the tank. lol. maybe i'll try some daphnia next. i might have to try the blood worms or mysis shrimp (only if i cut them in half) since it is supposed to really bring out the colors. ;o)

btw...lupin...ur killin me with the avatar pics! first the ferretts now my favoritest sea animal of all...the otters!
