I bought some small live rock yesterday from my LSF, put it in tank. looked at it this morning, and there seems to be a couple of tentacle things on it, about couple inchs big. Light brown in colour. I only setted the tank up on tuesday. Is there a chance they might survive as there is no biological bacteria yet. Would post a picture but dont know how to.

Also got my Fiji Liverock this morning., very happy, only got 5kilos, will get more later.

Sounds like aiptasia. It will survive. It will grow. It will reproduce to the point of covering your whole tank. Generally considered a pest, and unless you want these things everywhere in your tank, try to eliminate them now(I'll others comment on how).

could really do with a picture to honest mate...Give us a little bit more of an idea...Could be Aiptasia...If it is, get rid of it before it grows are starts to multiply...

Hope this helps

you wont need a picture mate, just run a search on that name on " oogle "
and you guys are right, it is Aiptasia, the so called pest. But is it dangerous to fish, if i keep them will they be a problem, surely with lots of these thing around they might give your tank a little bit of a appearance or do i sound just like a newbie, please advise me.

thanks guys

too late, put it in a bucket of FW cause i still want to keep the rock, too much bad news about these little critters. I thought they looked quite nice

umh, never put your live rock in fresh water! Not only will you kill the pest but, you'll also kill everything else on the rock. I usually use kalkh or a shot of lemmon juice to off them ;). Just fill a hypo remove the rock and squirt the critter down LOL they melt ;).

Woops, I did not know that, thanks for telling me. Anyway it does not matter cause it only cost me £4.50. I have ordered some Indonesia live rock to go with the fiji live rock. I hope thats much better.

i don't think you will kill aiptasia with fresh water. i was washing a heater once with a fresh water because it was covered in aiptasia and those things didn' feel a thing. i had to scrape them off
