What Is Normal Betta Behavior?

Also, does the tank need a lid? It would be a problem considering I have live plants that stick out the top...

As long as you have places with no current you should be fine, but you do need a lid, bettas can actually jump pretty well.

So how do I get the lid over the huge plant sticking out of the water?

Edit: Never mind, I was able to kinda get the lid on.

Would you be willing to trim the plant?

The plant is some sort of half in water, half out of water plant. (Like bamboo.) If the leaves go under the water, the plant will die. I have the lid sitting at a weird angle, but I think it should be fine for now.

Also, if Panda has SBD should I try letting him fast for a few days, then giving him a small amount of pea? This was recommend somewhere on the internet. I saw him go poo earlier today, so I would say that he's not constipated...but who knows.

Just make sure there's no holes where he could jump out and it would be okay. Peas are a good idea, it's one of the only treatments from what I've heard.

i treated my betta with maracyn for 5 days because he looked pretty sickly. i don't know if it was necessary though, as it was probably just stress from being in a little cup all his life. he's taken to my 10g pretty well and swims all over the place, though the tends to hang around the more heavily planted side of the tank more. the first 2 or 3 days he just stayed in a dark corner. give it some time and let it get used to the tank.

if the betta is able to swim normally then i don't think it is swim bladder disorder.

Bettas can get used to currents. My filter has a bit of a current and my betta used to freak out whenever he went near it, but now he sometimes plays in it, trying to swim against the current as hard as he can.

I think it all comes down to Panda getting used to the current. He was playing in it a little while ago. Now that my room lights are off, he's just floating around the middle and top of the tank.
