What is this? Fungus? Bacterial? Excess slime?

Hi, Samantha. How is she? I don't have my laptop so I'm on my iPhone, in bed, actually, but I just had to check to see if you had posted an update.

Heya Mel. Well let's see - she is acting a bit better - more normal. Maybe she was moping because I'd not fed her. And yes, she is eating only the medicated anti-bacterial stuff still (except for that day she had a pea, and the following day that she had nothing). I'm still doing the big water changes nightly and re-adding meds (Binox every single night, Kana every other), and of course salt. Tonight I notice a little white spot right in the middle of her head - I'm hoping it's just something stuck to her (it was brand new AFTER the water change) and not the start of ich. <sigh>

And yes... she has some serious attitude! She's a piece of work - actually much more aggressive than my fairly docile males. She gets irritated with the siphon and attacks it (truly attacks it - stands there and stares at it, then slightly wraps around it, then stands back dead still and stares at it again, then attacks), she had conniptions about the IAL I put in as of last night - was SO irritated that there was some interloper floating in her tank. <lol> Nutjob.

Will keep you up on the original thing on her head as well as this stupid new spot (doesn't look anything like columnaris - if it's not just something temporary/transient, it may be ich). Thanks, Mel!

I'm delighted she's so feisty. I hope the new spot is debris and not Ich or anything else.
Please try to get a photo of the area tomorrow. I'm wishing for a speedy recovery for your sweet girl.

I'll try to check back earlier tomorrow, hopefully on my laptop and not this phone, lol. I'm so slow at texting on this darn thing. Good night...it's lights out for me now. :)

'Morning! Good news - that white spot is gone. Must've been something that was floating around from the water change or something. WHEW. I was not looking forward to having to deal with ich now, too on the poor thing.

Now - to get yet ANOTHER picture of Ms Diva - I want to see that stuff on her head gone so we can all get a break from this daily medicating and water changes!

From pics, it looks the same today. Certainly no better today than pics already posted. This is day 7 (I think) of treatment - how long am I to keep this up? I know that entire white bit is supposed to be gone before stopping, but what if it's not by day 10? I can't keep medicating her for much past that, correct?

I'm glad the speck was debris. I was pretty sure that's probably what it was. I would really like to have that lesion totally gone, but I know this is stressful for both of you.

Let's go day to day on this. Let's see how she looks tomorrow.

Hi, Samantha. I hope Diva is feeling OK and is continuing to make progress. I've been gone most of the day and just got back a little while ago, but wanted to check on the patient... and her hardworking caretaker. :)

Heya Mel!

Okay, as we discussed in PM, I changed her water this morning (about 90%) and re-dosed with kanaplex but not the Binox. Still adding salt and still feeding medicated food. Will, as you said, leave this now until Tuesday morning, then change 25% of the water and redose with Kana again. Then leave til Thursday, and ditto. That'll be the last time.

Took some pics of her this morning and I think it looks better - nearly gone (she said hopefully) ? So much so that I felt some need to point out the spot with arrows. Here are 3 pics. (More Diva attitude in the first.)

This is awesome!!! Definitely way better. I'm thrilled that she's doing well. Let's revisit the treatment protocol, 48 hours after today's dose to see if we need to go any further with the antibiotics.

I wish she, and you :grinno:, could handle the stress of dabbing some Panalog on the remnants of that lesion as Flaringshutter did on her goldies, though actually she used Neosporin. She did say that she thought Panalog would be better since it sticks to the fish's skin better, but you'd have to get that from a Vet, and it's a moot point anyway since I think it might be too stressful for you two.;)

At any rate, I do believe she's gonna beat this! You are doing an excellent job with her. Keep us posted.
