What is your favorite tetra? Why?

I like Cardinal Tetras the best because of their color.

I know they are overrated by many but my favorite is the neon/cardinal tetras. I put them in the same category because they are just so similar and share the illuminating-electrifying blue colors that never fail to impress even the lesser fish lovers. :)

:iagree:My favorites too. Since a child I always like them. Hope I can increase my school of cardinal from 5 to 20 this year.

Agreed, the cardinals are my favorite, no matter how popular they are. It amazd me how different they are in my tank than in the display tanks at the LFS. They get nice and big and fat and shiny and colorful!

I also like ember tetras. I wanted some for a long time, and I couldn't find them. Now that I have them though, I'm going to trade them, which makes me sad. :( But they're just a little too "busy" and nippy. They're bothering my pearl gourami, and even the other tetras. I'm getting a pair of apistos and I'm sure they'd be bothered too. In another tank, someday, maybe.

I forgot to say why I like the serpae tetras and black skirt tetras so much. For both of them, I think they're beautiful to look at, they're "out there" (not skittish), and they're pretty tough (never lost one).

I do love our neons, but I feel like to have a good number of them, you have to start with a real big number of them... I just don't have a great success with them. Currently, we have 15 or so but that was out of 25 (lost 10 first week, none since).

I like all the fish I have as there is something unique about each species. It's hard to qualify any one. Also depends on the type of day I am having as to which fish helps me the most.

Maybe my neons/cardinals?

I think at the moment, the black neons are my favorite- They match my motorcycle with their green stripe. They have actualy seemed to have bridged the gap between my Zebra Danios and Neon's, and now I have 1 large school instead of two smaller ones, kind of interesting to watch.

Oh, that's easy. My beloved Red Phantoms, of course! They don't look like much if you have an lfs that carries them- but with the right conditions and a variety of foods, they color up so beautifully. Mine look like little red- orange pieces of living stained glass.

I agree 100% with NorthcoastGirl. "Little red- orange pieces of living stained glass" is probably the most accurate description for these fish. I first saw a Red Phantom in a Maryland LFS in the 80s and was hooked. If you're lucky to find the long fin version of these Red Phantoms, they're just striking!
