Also, petshops often give special sell-names to fishes to make them sound different or because they aren't adept enough to know the difference. I've seen 'tiger barb tetra' for tiger barbs, 'coral gourami' for various blue or striped dwarf gourami types, 'dinosaur eel' for senegal bichirs, and all sorts of partially or wholly incorrect names for various dwarf puffers and other fishes.
The point is don't believe names you see in the store. If you're interested in a fish at the store, ask for it's scientific name. They usually have it noted in their ordering catalogues. If not, ask to take a photograph so you can identify it online... or if you're feeling bold just buy it and look it up when you get home with it. Just know there are inherent risks in 'winging it' with a fish. You may be introducing an aggressor into your peaceful community... it may be a fin-nipper, territorial, or could grow to an immense size. If could also be the target of aggression from your normally peaceful fishes, need different water perims and temperatures, or different decorum to truly be at it's best potential.
Never take the pet shop's word as complete truth. 9 times out of 10, they are there to sell their products (aka their fish) first, and offer helpful information second!!
