What kinda tetra are theese?

Also, petshops often give special sell-names to fishes to make them sound different or because they aren't adept enough to know the difference. I've seen 'tiger barb tetra' for tiger barbs, 'coral gourami' for various blue or striped dwarf gourami types, 'dinosaur eel' for senegal bichirs, and all sorts of partially or wholly incorrect names for various dwarf puffers and other fishes.

The point is don't believe names you see in the store. If you're interested in a fish at the store, ask for it's scientific name. They usually have it noted in their ordering catalogues. If not, ask to take a photograph so you can identify it online... or if you're feeling bold just buy it and look it up when you get home with it. Just know there are inherent risks in 'winging it' with a fish. You may be introducing an aggressor into your peaceful community... it may be a fin-nipper, territorial, or could grow to an immense size. If could also be the target of aggression from your normally peaceful fishes, need different water perims and temperatures, or different decorum to truly be at it's best potential.

Never take the pet shop's word as complete truth. 9 times out of 10, they are there to sell their products (aka their fish) first, and offer helpful information second!!

Yes....But a pair of males.

They could be a pair... there could be hosting their own mini pride march as we speak through that aquarium!! ;)

What's the stocking in that tank? If it's just neons, then I'd say you could up the number up to 6-8 if they're the only fish in the tank.

The cherries need a tank of 15g+ (they're very active), and should have 2 females (very yellow and with a big black stripe) per male, so the minimum for them should be 4 females 2 males, with an ideal number of 7 females 3 males, IMO. It would be a great species tank with 10 cherries, 7 females 3 males, heavily planted with a few large plants in the back and a carpet of dwarf sag or dwarf hair grass, and driftwood in the middle with java moss. 2 10g filters on it and that thing would look soooo nice

there in a 10 gallon

i got the cherry barbs for free when i bought a tank only 2 of them they were with 2 neons 2 cardinals 2 pink somethin tetras and a ratty bad betta which died of dropsy in a 7.5 bowfront

but now they are housed in a mostly all planted 10 gallon with a bio wheel filter air stone a couple pots one has java moss in it
they share this 10 gallon with 4 neons a otto cat 2 dwarf frogs and a male betta.

Cherry barbs do fine as a pair, but a trio is better. They don't require a school though it is nice.

They do require a school, just like neons or danios.

I'd suggest doubling the neons and putting the 2 male cherries in the 15g, then getting 4 yellowish coloured females for them. They glow when there's females to flirt with :perv: :joke:
