What "sparked" you into keeping fish yourself?

We had several little bowls and small tanks when i was young, but nothing that really sparked my interests. Not until i saw my ex-BF's 110 high full of cichlid. That was when i realized what a wonderful hobby this is, and started my own tank just this year with the finances of my new current BF :) he got me a 46 gal bow front for my birthday.

My Gf has 2 tanks in here house... when i would go there i would pay no attention to her but towards the tanks.. lol... she got me a starter 10g now i have 3 tanks 30 55 and the 10...

i was doomed from the beginning on my fathers side of the family we all have a complete obsession with fish and fishing. my forst book as a child that i remember like 2 or 3 was a book called fish do the strangest things actully that is a series of books does anyone remember it. my mums side of the family were only slightly less obessed though it skipped one generation with my mother she never quite understood it. well anyway i had a 10 gallon tank for a few months my mother was stuck cleaning it, which she hated.i remember neons and angels. then they died and my mum freaked cause she was afraid i would be upset and it disappeared. which freaked me out even more lol. but apparently the first picture i ever drew was a fish.
i did not have anyother tanks but i seriouly got involved with fishing and studied from afar.
then when i was about 28 i really really got mad at my nieghbour for being to niosey and needed some white noise to not pay attention to his thumping and banging around. well i seriouly went into fishy overdrive that 20 long became a 30 then a 55 then 65 and then 120 and i went from fresh to salt in less then 4 months.
but due to as someone else put i life changes i had to take down all my tanks i left the hobby for like 3 years. and i am just coming back got my 65 back up and am now working on my 120. i am going to stay with freshwater though or at least try salt is all consuming and i am not sure i want to enter that madness again lol.

cheers
Ashley

My parents had a 55 gallon goldfish tank...I did not like gold fish, I wanted something more interesting, so I got a 10 gallon for some black mollies. Had fish ever since, going on 30 years (I am 32).

It was all my stepmom's fault! All i was doing was watching my kid burn off steam at the indoor mall playground and she comes up to me with this bag and says "happy birthday". Never realized one little fish could start it all! lol.

Hi all. My friend was moving from Fl. to Mich and needed to geat rid of a 75 gal. It had 5 angels in it. That was 4 yrs ago. I have 3 angels left. 1 red tailed shark, 1 pleco, 5 neon tetras, 5 cardinal tetras, 2 rosy barbs, 4 fancy tailed guppys and 4 corys. Im hooked. I now have a 125 gal given to me that I am inthe process of building a new cabinet for and than will set it up. Need some money too.

I grew up on a brackish water canal and started catching whatever I could back in the 1960's. It was that easy. When they died , catch more :)

It was after Christmas, so I had some extra cash on me. I went to walmart to get a thermometer, and saw a fish tank package-10 gallon tank+hood, light, fish food, and filter for $25.00, not knowing what I was getting myself into.
Needless to say, im kind of addicted now.

My little brother brought a couple tiny oscars and a 29G aquarium on day. We knew nothing about aquariums or fish. Well i had to learn to keep it alive. Now, I am addicted too. My brother, however, still does not know crap about aquariums.
