I would like to hear any stories about what made you or inspired you to keep fish? I'll satrt off with my story

I was going to a LFS with my 2 sisters to get 2 goldfish for our small rubbish cheap tank in the kitchen. I was looking around at all the cool fish and then i walked through the tank section and saw a 50G SW tank with well placed live rock and only a few inhabitants consisting of a cleaner shrimp a clown and a damsel. Simple it may seem but to me it was buzzing with life, the clown weaving in and out of the rock, the damsel darting about and the shrimp rumaging about on the rock, it seemed amazing to me. I could have been there for hours just watching them. We got home and acclimatised the goldfish and watched them for ages. My intrest for fish had been born, it was my birthday soon after so after a little nagging i got and set up a 30G but was restricted to freshwater but that was still a massive world to me. I then got a 20G for the following christmas. Hours upon hours i would spend my time on the computer researching what wonderful fish i could put in my tank

I actually got into it because my son (who was 1 1/2) was facinated by fish, so I decided to set up an old 10g my parents bought when I was in grade school to raise tadpoles into frogs (I was homeschooled so this was part of bio for me). After a horrible first try with 10 goldfish in it (bad lfs advice) I stumbled across this forum and my passion just took off. Only 6 months later and I have (2)10g, a 20g and a 55g.

My Boyfriend (at the time) had a friend that just had a batch of Jack Dempsey babies. He was trying to find them homes. I had no idea what these fish required. They were only 1/2" big so I got out my 10 gallon tank and got started. I started researching them and realized what I had gotten myself into.

Now it is almost 5 years later, and I have a 55 gallon for the Jacks, I also have a 29 gallon coffee table for my community fish (which started out as feeders for the jacks, but just I just couldn't do it, so they became my new tank of pets.).

My jacks are about 8" long and I am sure will get much bigger when I get them in a larger tank. (I am working on it but current and permanent Boyfriend / Fiance isn't as keen on fishies, so it is taking some convincing. LOL)

He'll catch the fever some day... Mom and Dad jack are moving gravel again and he gets to watch the process this time so he is learning how smart and interesting these "dumb old fish" really are when you take the time to watch them.

I was saving a frog I found in the parking lot and bought a fish tank to put him in. I later found out I could not keep him captive if I wanted him to live and let him go. Got another frog and didn't like him.

I didn't know what to do with the fish tank so I bought some fish. Killed about 10 and now I have some idea as to what im doing.

I saw some pictures on the internet about two years ago and was hooked! I never knew FW fish were so colorful and lively as I only had a goldfish as a kid (10 stuffed into a 10 gallon). Received my first tank (30 gal.) a year and a half ago and joined this site a few months later. Got the 55 this summer, and with the help of this site, my knowledge keeps growing. :)

My mom got two 10 gallon tanks when I was a child. We didn't have them for a long time butI always remembered them and the mollies that my mom really liked. I got a goldfish for my son when he was 2, then a betta after the goldfish died. It just brought back memories of looking at fish tanks so I went out and did it. I stopped for 5 years til this years Now I have a 20 gallon community/planted and a 10 gallon community/planted. I also just ventured into a 37 gallon reef system and am having tons of fun learning. I'm on line all the time learning and watching.

My brother had fish when we were kids. I always liked watching them. He still has an aquarium!

I am a professional pet groomer (hence the username) and I would really love to get another dog as our current dog is getting old (12) but....I am pregnant with our third child and there is just no way that I can give a dog the attention, training and exercise that it would need along with two other small children and a newborn....so, to fill the urge for a new pet, I got fish under the guise of getting them for my 5 year old!

I got her a 5 gallon acrylic bow front tank and we've finally got it cycled and stocked with 3 guppies and 2 African dwarf frogs. We are having fun with it after a frustrating start.

I also got a second betta tank. We've got one on either side of the kitchen sink and I enjoy them a lot!

I now have visions of a BIG tank in the living room! Someone gave us a 10 gallon a while ago and I forgot about it until recently. We've brought it up and I'll set it up soon and probably wait a year or so for a much larger tank, then i'll keep it as a QT.
