what to do with a little 10g

Yeah, definitely check local regs first. Ambystomatids (including blue-spotteds and yellow-spotteds) are pretty but very very boring; they spend most of their time buried. Actually, that's not too far off the mark for the other species there either; they're all hiders. Duskies and two-lineds are a little more active, and the only strongly aquatic ones of the bunch.

Toads are a bit more active and interesting. You can keep two or three comfortably in a ten gallon.

I just sent an email off to the Canadian Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Network and am eagerly awaiting a reply.

this is the breed of toad in my region
Eastern American Toad
Bufo americanus americanus

American toads get pretty big- fist-sized females are not uncommon. Just so you know. But they're pretty undemanding; they'll eat anything that moves and are fine at room temp. They like to burrow. I keep mine on chopped coir (AKA Bed-a-beast).

form research i've done, the ones around here get to about 2 inches in length on average. I got a response from the person who controls wildlife conservation in my province and have to email him my phone number. hopefully I get the response that I want.

well, my dream has been crushed, my province dose give permits to capture wild amphibians...but only for scientific research. I guess they had a guy one who took a bunch of woodland turtles which don't being to reproduce until very late in life and almost wiped out an entire area's population of them, so no native toads, newts or sallies for me :( I'll have to settle with what I can find at the pet store...or become a biologist...hmmmmmmm

I've decided to go with 2 fire belly toads. they have 2 at my lfs, I'm going to get started on my setup in the next day or 2 and should have the toads within say 2-3 weeks.
