What to do with starter fish?

Dragoro what do you have in you tank what size is the tank.

I don't know why the lfs calls some fish starter fish. Generally these are fish that will withstand the rigors of a cycling tank. I think most stores push danios as starter fish. They are great little fish and work well in a community stetting . They are out and about all over the tank and do not bother any of the other fish. If you find that in the end you really do not want these fish as part of your community tank, most pet stores will take donations.

Right now I have a 20 gallon with the 2 convicts, the chicilid, 2 of those sucker fish, and the 5 starter fish. I have a 100 gallon being shipped to me that I bought online.

"2 of those sucker fish"

Please research these online. These tend to be Plecos (Plecostomus) and most species get very large! The 110 will be a great home for one, but probably not both.

I cycled one of my tanks with goldfish and they survived. I kept them. Now I am hooked on goldfish. I was going to have a tropical tank, now I have just 2 goldfishes in my 55g and very satisfied & happy about it. They are spoiled!
(ie: it was a short cycle, I used media from an existing tank which speeded up the process)

The generally accepted theory is they are starters because they handle the stress of improper water conditions better than others. Meaning the gill damage caused isn't as great and you won't notice their shortened life span.

Keep them if you can and they are compatible with your current stock.

Or get another tank or give them back to the LFS.
